Saudi is truly one of the worst if not the worst countries on the face of the planet. Worst 5 yrs of my life spent there as a kid.

This is what happens when religion and government intertwine. If someone's life is in danger, its your obligation as a ethical human being to do what you can to save that life. What a waste of a promising individual's life all because of some dumb sexist religious code. The student's seem to think exactly the same. It doesn't seem that difficult to hold off on religious custom just for a little bit considering the circumstances.

from that link... "In 2002, 15 schoolgirls died in a fire in Makkah after, according to reports at the time, religious police stopped them from leaving a burning building because they were not properly dressed."

When I was living there there was a similar story, but the perp was punished. I've always thought that the beheading punishment is always telling of how modern Saudi is, but this one time it was put to good use.

There was a Molvi (Mullah) who was getting late for night prayer. He was speeding and in the process hit a kid who was badly injured. Rather than stopping to help him, he went on and rushed for prayer, leaving the boy to die on the road.

The Mullahs are given a lot of power in Saudi, but there was zero tolerance when he was caught. Beheaded in the streets (public showing if I recall).

Infuriating, that 2002 story at end is even worse.

Faith sure loves to overpower common sense.

This can't be true, I mean I do not have a high regard of SA, but this is pathetic even for them. Is this confirmed?

Ofcourse the story in the OP is also pathetic and unbelievable.

Some people really do not deserve to walk on this earth.

I'm sure not on purpose, but concern about look and dress over safety from a fire is pathetic and shocking. I read that the government, after their own investigation, didn't put any blame on the death on the religious police but on other factors. Essentially, slowing down rescue and preventing girls to evacuate wasn't deem a contributing factor to their death.

How about those parents that won't let their kids see a doctor? How do people get so ignorant in today's world is just beyond me.

Millions upon millions of people practice their faith. Billions upon billions when you consider historical numbers.

    All without bothering their neighbor.

These religious rules we have created for our species are just mind-boggling to me. Who has time for this nonsense?

I hope and I think there will be an uprising in Saudi Arabia in the near future.

The royal family and the religious nutcases that are ruling that country need to be ousted.
