Sorry, not supporting mediocrity because a team plays in my city, and expecting excellence from the people who not only have used my tax dollars to levy production of a palace of football but also my own business earnings for season tickets since day 1 makes me a terrible fan...then by all means brand me that.
Then it's going to be Manziel, because he'll say and do all the right things before the draft. Seriously, you don't pass up on a QB just because they chased tail in college, you pass on them because you think there are better players to burn your pick on. If the Texans really truly believe Manziel is their guy, but pass on him because he's not a company man, the Texans are going to look dumb. Passing on him because of his size is one thing, passing on him because he likes to party is stupid. Bridgewater, Manziel, Clowney, or trade down a couple of spots and select Bortles, but the new regime better not screw this up.
Can someone explain why BOB has been anointed as a good coach? They went 7-5 against a "meh" schedule. Most of those wins were by less than a TD also.
Homer Kool Aid Wait and see approach with heavy leanings towards this loser organization will continue making loser decisions.
There really is no good reason in my opinion. He might be good. But he definitely hasn't proven anything yet.
I think it was more of what situation Penn State was.. I think they had lost alot of good players, and also were having hard time recruiting, because of what happened in that scandal.. He took a school that was literally defeated and got them 2 straight winning seasons.. I guess thats why people think hes a good coach.. got to give him credit, to go in there and manage to get a couple of winning season.. I dont thinnk it was easy.
This, coupled with the fact that Brady had possibly his best season ever with him as his Offensive Coordinator, is why people are sipping on the kool aid.
Is it really "kool aid" that makes people approve of what he did at Penn State? The school received the harshest punishment the NCAA has given since the SMU death penalty and he kept them competitive in a good conference. That speaks to some kind of coaching acumen, right?
You're basing this off just straight statistics. The psychology of all the Penn State players must have been wracked, due to the Paterno/Sandusky situation. I'm guessing a lot of recruits jumped ship after all that stuff came to light. The fact that they went 7-5 is actually really good, when you think about it, and spend more than 3 minutes looking at the box score of the entire season.
Granted that true freshman was the best qb coming out of high school (5 star recruit) and a probable top 5 pick in a couple years
I agree with you 100%. I think the guy is an excellent motivator, and he's proven that. X's and O's- wise, I'm not as sure, but he's seen decent results there, too.
I disagree. I don't believe the scandal that happened at Penn State had a direct psychological impact on the players because there were no players involved. And plus they had a decent record before he got there but he did do a good job keeping the ship afloat IMO.
I thought Brady's best year was the year they went undefeated and made it to the super bowl (Randy Moss's 1st year there) and I believe McDaniels was the OC at the time. I could be wrong on that though.
It's not even that. Joe Paterno was the icon there. He was larger than the university. All of those players were connected to him, no matter how little he was actually involved in game plans (although people say it was still a lot surprisingly.) Sandusky was a guy still on campus. I'm sure these players had seen him and talked with him. To have the university run through the mud, the alumni players defending Joe Pa on tv only to have him fired before the season was over, then he died, a bunch of players leave your team, you get heavily penalized... The idea that this had no impact on them because they weren't the ones molested is crazy.
ND Kalu said the same thing and he's a guy who actually played college ball and pro football. So I guess you think he's trolling too... Smh. Some of those kids might be only concerned with playing football and making a life for themselves... And some of those kids may have even grew up in the "hood" where they have seen and experienced a lot worst. It's foolish not to give any of those young men credit for not folding and to believe O'Brien is the ONLY reason they didn't. Especially when they had the opportunity to leave but they stayed.
Blake Bortles among players with most to prove at combine Blake Bortles, QB, UCF I always worry a little about guys who burst onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere. Bortles is a one-year wonder who can prove a lot to me at the combine. He's had one good year, but it was an excellent year; he completed almost 70 percent of his passes and threw for 25 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. Right now he looks good on tape -- bringing his team from behind against Temple, beating Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl -- but now you want to see him outclass the other quarterbacks while competing against them at the combine. For example, when you see him in drills, he might not be the equal of Johnny Manziel moving around, but if teams are to consider Bortles that high in the draft, he has to be at least close to Manziel in athletic ability. These events are important because it will allow teams' knowledge of Bortles to increase -- right now, based on my knowledge of the two quarterbacks, I have Bortles as my No. 2 QB behind Manziel. It's possible that could change after the combine.
