http://www.basketballinsiders.com/nba-am-who-is-still-on-the-trade-fence/ Can't post on the GARM so I just post it here.
That was already posted somewhere; the article at least. I don't think they mean it literally, just like what Carl stated above.
At this point it's addition by subtraction. They get rid of a guy who quit on his team while everyone else was playing through injuries, and some of them on bargain basement contracts(Parsons and Bev). And if they get at least someone in return, maybe that player can contribute off the bench which would be more than what they're getting from Asik.
Getting a bad contract for Asik is worse than keeping Asik. That's why the Lee and Bass deal for him was a bad deal. Lee has a bad contract. Asik will play next season if he doesn't get traded. His agent won't allow him to sulk in the last year of his deal or they will both lose a lot of money. I'm rooting for no trade unless it's gets us cap space this summer or a real asset in return. I'd rather b**** slap Asik and watch him reserve himself to playing backup than get a garbage deal to make him happy. The team isn't doing too bad without him.
I'm not disagreeing with you there. I'm not saying just get rid of Asik for anything. Obviously if Morey turned down Courtney Lee and Brandon Bass(and possibly a pick) just because Lee's deal ran through 2016, he's clearly got certain requirements than any Asik deal must meet. That being said, I'd rather have one or two average bench players(presumably signed through no later than next season) than a very talented but disgruntled and unprofessional big man who could bail on the team at any given moment.
Speculation. Even if he plays, months of sitting around on his arse will not magically lift him to top 4 center status again. I doubt it.
I just don't see Morey trading off Asik for peanuts. There is a reason he is still on the team. I really see him "sticking it out" with the Rockets until at least the offseason. There is absolutely nothing of value out there for Houston to get for Asik right now.
I still think Asik to Charlotte would make the most sense. Not sure why Charlotte is really trying to upgrade and become decently competitive, but this year it has definetly been their goal.
I still think Morey should've pulled the trigger. It's not like Lee can't be moved again before the 2015 offseason. It would've given the Rockets some much needed depth the last month and a half and oh BTW, it would've kept Lee off of a division rival that's coming on strong lately.
I think they've sucked so long that they just want to have a measure of respect. Not to mention get the locals interested and buying tickets: "See? We don't suck....as much as you think we do!"
