The greater danger to heroin use isn't to the junkie but the surrounding neighborhood he/she lives in/travel through. Unfortunately for most they're not all cashed up movie stars.

I have a hard time believing there are people out there that don't empathize with addicts. I mean, are there really people out there that haven't seen something like this happen or almost happen to someone they care about? The human body is wired to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Alcohol and drugs dull emotional pain and can distract from physical pain. Stress causes more than just psychological pain, it will make you sick and make your body hurt. Why do athletes smoke weed? Pain. Why do doctors and lawyers tend to abuse alcohol and pills? Stress. Every one of us is a potential addict, but most of us have been lucky not to run into the thing that triggers our own personal self-destruction. PSH wasn't that lucky.
People only sympathize with those who addictions are the same as theirs Weed Smokers will berate alcoholics Alcoholics will berate Heroin addicts Heroin addicts will berate Fat people [food addicts] Fat People will berate Weed smokers etc etc etc Rocket River
Also I had never heard of this actor and can't name a single movie he's been in. He's really not that great. Wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal if he were alive.
That makes no sense at all. I'm not sure if you're trying too hard.. or you really just have an extremely poor grasp of language and and logic
The only this post proves is that you aren't very current in your recent film history and don't watch many movies.
"I had never heard of this actor and can't name a single movie he's been in. He's really not that great. Wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal if he were alive." Then with all due respect, perhaps you should go to the movies more often. Hoffman won an Academy Award for best actor in Capote. He was nominated for best supporting actor for the films Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and The Master. He was widely praised for roles in Magnolia, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Almost Famous, Boogie Nights, Owning Mahowny, The Savages, Synecdoche, New York, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, and State and Main, as well as numerous other roles. So yes, Hoffman was a big deal before he died. Almost forgot one of my favorites, The Big Lebowski.
I guess you must enjoy watching terrible movies? Movies he's been in just off the top of my head: -the Big Lebowski -Boogie Nights -Capote -Hunger Games 2 -Charlie Wilson's War
It is irrelevant that it is legal to overeat and it is irrelevant whether it is addictive to speed. Indeed, I would argue the fact that it is not addictive to speed only furthers my point.
It doesn't always work that way. Some wealthy, talented and successful people are miserable.... likewise, some poor pig farmers are as happy as can be. Genetics and the way the brain works plays a part in it. I have never met PSH, but I doubt he was a bowl of cherries and suspect he had serious demons, which he has alluded to in the past.
Granted Hoffman was no Shia Labeouf, Vin Diesel, or Robert Downey Jr., but he was still a pretty good actor.
Seriously? You may find it a funny comment, but I envy you. I'd love to be able to watch all those flicks for the first time, particularly Magnolia, The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights, and one of my favorite "guilty pleasures," Almost Famous, which reminds me of the 1960's, although the film takes place a decade later, and the main character, William, is much younger during the film than I was when I was busy having fun during the '60's going to concerts and chasing girls. Hoffman is brilliant in all 4 films, even though they are all relatively small roles with large ensemble casts. When you walk out of the theatre after each one, his role is one of the roles that sticks with you, that you talk about with the person you saw it with. And all 4 flicks have amazing acting jobs by others, some surprising. In Magnolia, Tom Cruise shows an astonishing dramatic range that many people who haven't seen it probably don't know he's capable of. Yes, Tom Cruise! Almost Famous has brilliant performances by Billy Crudup and Kate Hudson, as well as Hoffman. Boogie Nights gives Burt Reynolds one of the best roles of his career, and he makes the most of it. The Big Lebowski? John Goodman, Julianne Moore, and Steve Buscemi all turn in some of their best work, in my humble opinion. You should check them all out. -
How about Mission Impossible 3, Patch Adams, Twister, Scent of a Woman, Along Came Polly, Pirate Radio? He has been in some blockbuster movies, but most of his stuff was more independent or artsy. I would say that people who like to watch movies nominated for Oscars or Golden Globes couldn't avoid his movies if they tried. Every PSH fan should definitely check out A Late Quartet on Netflix. It is really good. He was probably my favorite actor, by far. He rarely played the leading role (Capote, Happiness, maybe a few others) but he was an amazing character actor. I can't think of a movie of his that I didn't like.
