You're probably right. But I have yet to hear a single person threaten to quit following the team if they draft Teddy. I have, however, heard that from the Manziel crowd. Be it not that many, but more than zero. It's a dumb, empty threat. If this team's uncanny ability to underachieve hasn't chased you off by now, you're a lifer.
I'm trying to see this posters emotions towards this dilemma. I respect Teddy as a player and think he is equal to Manziel. I don't think he's a "third round talent hyped up to top 5". I like they guy and hope he does well but I don't think he has that something special that Manzeil has. Bridgewater is good at everything he does but Manziel is spectacular at playmaking. I call it swinging for the fences. You don't bunt with the first overall pick IMO.
Are you saying that Manziel isn't the best playmaker coming into this draft? Please tell me that's what you're saying.
That's fair. I'm not in the "he's a 3rd rounder" camp. I think he has a very high ceiling where Teddy is a sure thing. I believe that you don't go with risk at #1, but believe folks can differ on that. If JFF is the pick, cool. I'll get behind it. But I do believe it would be going for exciting over winning. I could be wrong, hell, I was before with Reggie/Mario. But as long as he's healthy, i have zero doubts Teddy will be a franchise QB.
I haven't been able to go in there since the "Jeremy Lin is 3rd best PG in Rockets history" thread. I'll return after he's traded.
You know us ClutchFans can get emotional on this board... They may say they won't watch but they will be right there in front of the TV on Sundays.
The fact that you think collegiate "playmaking" means something at the next level indicates you have no reason to comment further on this topic
seems like Bridgewater is slipping across peoples' mock drafts... Clowney, Manziel, Bortles on the rise
ourlads is one of the few scouting sites worth a fuccck.. they updated their top 32 and added and extra 20.. Ourlads Top 32 Plus Updated their combine rankings are usually spot on, their ranking formula has proven a nice way to find some gems..
That's a very hypocritical statement considering everything you bring up about Teddy is things he's done in college. Like his collegiate poise in the pocket against mediocre college competition.
Well, there are just a few Bridgewater fanatics who are basically the same thing as Lin fans, but they are pretty easy to spot and are usually best ignored. When you argue with them, it turns into the GARM pretty quickly
He's the flashiest player and some of that is from him not making the correct read from the jump. Do you really believe that Teddy B wouldn't have gone off in the same system? Timmy Chang Colt Brennan Nick Florence They all say HI.
You really think Manziels mobility and improvisation skills will be useless in the NFL? With quarterbacks like Wilson, Kaeperknick, and RG3 coming on the scene and with Texans fans having to watch Matt Schaub in the pocket for the last however many years you'd think playmaking ability would be something you wouldn't take for granted.
Playmaking ability is nice and can be extremely beneficial. No one's arguing with that. The problem comes when a specific players relies too much on his playmaking (Johnny Manziel). Out of those three, Wilson is really your only good example of a true playmaking quarterback succeeding at the next level, though many would argue that Wilson just road the coattails of a great running game and defense (looking at you Bobby). Kaepernick was meh this season, and RG3 has been struggling with injury. Not the best indicators of QB playmaking success at the next level. If Manziel can prove he can truly be effective as a pocket-passer, and use his playmaking ability as an explosive wrinkle to his game, then he may very well be a franchise QB in the NFL. The problem is that he's shown no capability of running a pro-style offense and has not proven to be comfortable in the pocket. Those are major issues.
who says teddy cant improvise, theres a difference between a qb improvising because nothing is available and extending a play vs a guy that misses reads, gets happy feet, runs around to turn something into nothing than nothing into something again by lobbing up jump balls to a 6'5'' 1st round WR..
