I really hope we draft Johnny or Teddy. I don't even know if I have a preference at this point. Maybe I prefer Teddy slightly, but I'll be thrilled with either. I'll leave it up to the coaching staff.
Can we agree the Texans need to decide on a player to draft before free agency begins? Especially if they want to pick a QB, you have to think the player they pick would have an impact on what types of free agents they want to sign.
They could still sign a free agent QB and turn around and draft one with the #1 pick or trade down and get one... But if they do something like trade for Mallet _ then they probably wouldn't draft a quarterback.
http://www.houstontexans.com/news/article-2/VanderMock-10/1d7f8965-85fc-4255-9b50-d265ac9dfe0b VanderMock – Texans Mock Draft 1.0 Even though we haven't had the Combine and have no clue what’s going to happen in free agency, it’s never too early for a highly speculative, for-entertainment-purposes-only Texans mock. This will be the first of many (or just two, depending on what mood I'm in). Information is purely from my own research and hypothetical situations are from my somewhere in my cranium. Round 1 Johnny Manziel - QB Texas A&M So what if Johnny doesn’t throw at the Combine. We all know he can sling it. The most well attended Combine event ever (as far as personnel types are concerned) will be the Manziel weigh-in when his height becomes NFL-official. Russell Wilson’s success certainly helps Johnny’s cause. And it doesn’t hurt that the Texans coach is a New Englander who might still feel bitter about Doug Flutie getting height-profiled out of a legitimate chance to be an NFL QB in his prime (unless he was one of those Flutie-haters). Round 2 Dee Ford - DE Auburn After picking Manziel, I’d be tempted to select offensive linemen in the next six rounds. But this feels almost like 2006 when DeMeco Ryans was sitting there at the top of the second. You see Ford and grab him because the Ninja is a free agent (by the draft, who knows where he is?) and you need help up front to go along with Watt. If Ford drops to this point you take him and celebrate (1st team All-Sec, two sacks in the National Championship game). Round 3 Yawin Smallwood - ILB UConn The University of Connecticut quickly becomes this decade's version of Colorado State as the Texans take another Nutmeg state standout (to join Trevardo Williams and Ryan Griffin). Smallwood was a top 25 tackler in the nation this year with good hands who can also get to the quarterback (four sacks, 9.5 TFL). Round 4 Justin Ellis - DT La Tech We need beef in the middle of this 3-4 and Ellis provides that with his 6-2, 342 pound frame as Rick Smith finally addresses a request I've been making since Seth Payne left the building: "Please get a huge DT!" Thank you. Round 5 Wesley Johnson - OT Vanderbilt If Seantrel Henderson is still here (and he won't be) you'll be tempted to take him but his off field issues caused the drop so you go with a 'project' in Johnson. Hey, it's round 5. Let's rock! Strength coach Craig Fitzgerald will add onto the frame in the weight room and by year two he could be playing a big role. Round 6 Storm Johnson - RB UCF In watching all the tape on Bortles, Johnson catches their eye. He averaged over five yards per carry, scored 18 touchdowns and he can catch. Plus, as a play-by-play announcer, you dream of names like ’Storm’ to have fun with during the broadcast. Round 7 Jeff Mathews - QB Cornell Don't you almost have to take another one somewhere? Mathews assignment is to play Steve Walsh to Manziel’s Troy Aikman, to be the Kirk Cousins to RGIII. He came on strong in the East West Shrine game and might just turn into one of those Ryan Fitzpatrick types who turns Ivy into NFL green. If he makes the roster, he'll be the second Cornell player in team history after Seth Payne (Unless I’m forgetting someone, which Seth will certainly point out).
I don't think his coach will build with free agency unless it's veteran leadership from NE. Every new coach wants guys he knows or guys who he can coach up from the get go.
I like that mock. I think Yawin Smallwood or Shane Skov would be great if either are available in the 3rd round.
He has to show that he has changed his ways ( or pretend to) so his draft stock doesn't go to the crapper. So of course he is gonna try and do everything right.
If we took Manziel, I could see O'Brien doing some wicked things with his hurry up offense. Think about having Andre, Hopkins, Daniels/Griffin, Foster all on the field running short to intermediate routes. Johnny gets the option to create, alleviating some of our O-Line woes. If he doesn't see any of these guys come open, he takes off. Quickly, everyone is at the line again, same thing. Defenses would be stuck in their defense, and we'd be rolling. Get those D-lineman gassed, take a shot over the top with no pass rush coming at you. Even if there is a pass rush, you've spread the defense vertically, and Johnny could take off and make things happen... I'm dreaming... I want Teddy most, but I'd be fine with Manziel. He'd let O'Brien be almost as creative as he could be. Also, it's a pick McNair endorses and wants (supposedly), so if he failed, O'Brien wouldn't be totally tied to it. We really don't know a whole lot, though. And we won't, for a good month or so. Ultimately, I trust the decision the staff makes, and I'm starting to also think that it will be Bortles.

If you like pretty women who can cook... You're more than likely to marry a pretty woman who can cook. O'Brien likes big quarterbacks so I think Blake my have the upper hand on both Johnny and Teddy.
I hope not.. if your going to take Bortles than you have to trade down.. You cant take him with the NO # 1 pick.. (That's crazy) I would rather pick Clowney if hes thinking of picking Bortles NO # 1..
I think it's crazy to take Teddy Bridgewater with the #1 overall pick seeing how he's mostly played weak competition. At least Bortles "Looks The Part", plays in more of a pro style system than Teddy, made more NFL type throws, and played against harder competition. But all of this might just be a smoke screen.
Put down the bong, Bortles does not play in more pro style system than Bridgewater nor does he make more NFL type throws (if there is such a thing) They both played in the safe conference Stop making up lies and BS
While the first statement is largely your opinion, the second part is largely false. Bortles in no way played in a more pro style system than Teddy, and from the tape I've seen (which is maybe three games on Bortles...not a ton, I know), made nowhere near as many NFL type throws as Teddy. The competition is arguable. I'd probably disagree on that, too. I can't decide if you like going against the grain just to be different, or if you're trolling, dumb, or just don't watch football. No offense, though, honestly. I respect your opinion some of the time.
