Um yea... No one is arguing that Seattle doesn't have one of the best Secondary of all time... They are lights out. But, that does not change anything about Wilson. He's a star in this league.. And his future is bright bright bright.

Absolutely because all "stars in this league"....except if any real "star in this league" only passed for 175 yards per game in a playoff run would be absolutely crucified for it. However since he was able to ride an amazing defense to the SB, that makes him a "star QB"

That's pretty much what you ask from game managers....take care of the ball and don't turn it over. He did a good job of it.

Is that all it takes to be a "star in this league"?

Soooo by your rationale... Luck is not even in the class of a game manager? I remind you he had 7 INT in 2 games. Your argument is weeeeeak!!!

All QBs are game managers to a large extent

I forgot who I was talking to, I'm wasting my time with you, carry on.

In some way sure, but pretty much every QB in the NFL is expected to pass the ball moe in order to help his team win.
Wilson averages 400 pass attempts a year, to put that in perspective, this year the only QB's with less than 450 pass attempts who played all 16 regular season games were

    Wilson, Kap, Geno Smith

    The year before? Just Wilson

The year before that? Just Alex Smith

The year before that? No one

There were 3 QB's in the league with more completions than Wilson had attempts this year.

    1. Geno was a rookie and played like it with a horrible receiving crew to top it off

    2. When Wilson had the ball in his hands he made plays...If you have Marshawn Lynch and a #1 defense you play it close to the vest, even if you have Aaron Rodgers. Especially since the Seattle wrs corps is not the strongest link on the team (I like them though).

    3. Kaep probably has the least excuse since he has Anquan boldin and Crabtree on top of Vernon Davis to throw to, but its still the principle that you have a strong run game and defense. You don't just air it out, regardless who is your qb.

All 3 had training wheels on and that's why they never really passed the ball.

Thing is, when Wilson had to make a run/throw for a critical 3rd down. Carroll let him

Well that's great, but he still had training wheels on. I'd like to see what he'd do if he had a season where he was given a big boy's workload.

Geno had NOOOO BODY to throw to. He's strong in the pocket though. He'll step into the throw and he doesn't flinch with a hit coming. I like his potential. I think the Jets got a good deal on him in the 2nd round. I don't judge rookie starters harshly.

One thing I will say in Wilson's defense is that he was missing starters on his offensive line and I believe he was the most pressured QB on the limited amount of throws he did take. But I guess Seattle can say they were missing starters on defense as well. Their 2nd best corner was suspended.

How the hell did this turn into a debate on whether Wilson is star?

Which might not be anytime soon and they have a nice young stud running back waiting in the wings to take over for Lynch. I think Russell will have a lil better year next year with Harvin _ but because of the way that team is set up, Seattle probably won't have to give him Flacco money.

Wilson's mobility is perfect. He won't get Flacco money but he will get paid.

    Turbin is a beast.

Wilson was better than Drew Brees at this point of their respective careers

Did he still have training wheels on last year in the playoffs against Atlanta, where they put the ball in Wilson's hand down 20-0 at halftime and he came back to get them the lead in the 4th quarter(only to have Atlanta pull off a miraculous last minute drive to win)? He threw for 385 yards and 2 TD, rushing for 60 yds and another TD. Lynch only had 46 rushing yards in that one and the defense was clearly not the same as the one we just saw Sunday.

The guy can play. I'm not putting him up there with Brees and Rodgers yet, but he can play. You're right that Seattle absolutely rode the defense to a title, but that doesn't make Russell Wilson into Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer and it doesn't mean that QB isn't the most important variable when it comes to competing or a Super Bowl. Football can be won in many different ways, but there is no disputing that a great QB makes it much easier.
