The Nelson/Big Baby for Asik/Lin trade could get interesting if we included Brewer and Orlando included Afflalo.
Glad our GM is not an idiot. Unless they throw in a future unprotected 1st no way does that happen. We're talking about two players that are net negatives here.
Exactly what i was thinking, something along the time of Asik/Lin/brewer and our 1st for Nelson,Davis, and Affalo with their 2nd rounder.
My Trade Partner: The Miami Heat http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=pe83w6k Out going: Omer Asik and Ronnie Brewer Incoming: Shane Battier Haslem Rashard Lewis + Future Draft Picks (Maybe the unprotected 2016 first?) Why would Heat do this? Chris Bosh at the 4 with Asik at the five against Pacers with Hibbert and West seems like a good enough reason to do it. They do lose Battier who is still a rotational player for them, but Beasley is getting more playing time any ways. They also do have James Jones who can fill in for some situations. I think this trade makes them the favorites over the Indiana again, which is exactly why they should do this move. Why would Rockets do this? Our rotation the last few games are good enough that I actually think we're ok with D-Mo at the back up five and four. We could use a veteran wing of the bench in Battier but the main prize is obviously the future pick. We don't need Asik right with the way our team has been playing. We can always use more assets.
More of a proposal than a rumor. Take the source for what it's worth: http://****************/articles/536683/20140131/nba-trade-news-rockets-rumors.htm#.Uu-UBz1dV14
I was reading a blog that suggested Asik/Lin for Brooks Lopez. Since Lopez is injured and not helping the nets, Asik/Lin would help them make a playoff push this season. The Rockets could then flip Brooks Lopez in the off season or redirect him to another team. I thought this was an interesting idea. Of course there would be more players involved, but it starts with Asik, Lin, and Lopez.
I don't like it Any deal for Asik that doens't return a new starter or a solid backup center is a waste of time. Taking on Miami's refuse doesn't sit well with me and it makes them WAY better
Houston IN: Anderson Varejao & 2014 first round draft pick from Charlotte (via Detroit). Why Houston does it? Varejao can spell Dwight as backup center. Varejao also has a TEAM option after this season. Rockets get a 1st round pick. This is similar to the Wizards/Suns trade (Gortat for 1st Rd pick +Okafor) Cleveland IN: Greg Monroe & Ben Gordon. Why Cleveland does it? Waiters has been a locker room cancer and may need a change of scenery. Cleveland gets a very good/young PF/C. Charlotte IN: Omer Asik Why Charlotte does it? They have been in the Omer Asik rumor mill. Jefferson can play PF next to Asik. Detroit IN: Dion Waiters & Donatas Motiejunas. Why Detroit does it? I don't think they will resign Monroe in the summer, because of Drummond. They get a young/upside player in Waiters and D-Mo.
I think we'd be better in the frontcourt and weaker in the backcourt if we made that deal. Probably Charlotte would have to route the Detroit 2014 Top 8 protected pick to Philadelphia.
I like this a lot - honestly seems balanced all around although the only thing I think that hangs it up is does Charlotte want Asik with Jefferson in place?
Ya, I'm not sure if they would fit together on the floor at the same time. I mainly proposed this because of "rumors" that Charlotte inquired about Asik. That would just make me think Asik would play the 5 and Jefferson would play the 4.
