    Contradicting. Post is contradicting.

Shot it "dozens" of times but not addicted. Not at all. The first step to recovery is.....

I know someone personally who did her master's thesis on occasional heroin use among the middle class. This was back in the 1970's. Turned out that there were significant numbers of middle class people of a younger demographic (20's-30's) using it sometimes on weekends for fun, for a "lark." The vast majority weren't becoming addicted, either. I found it quite interesting.

No, not really contradictory at all. It might be if they shot it dozens of times in a week.

But shooting it 20-25 times over three or four years would not be addicted. It wasn't a requirement for those folks to live normally, exist, or function. People around them who they did it with did become addicted. Different people have different tolerance levels.

They did indeed shoot heroin more than a dozen times, and they were never addicted. It isn't a contradiction, but real life.

That's crazy to think about. I asked these guys if they weren't worried since almost every time they did it, a person who was new to the drug would get addicted. It was like if they were in a group of six, and none of them were junkies, after doing it, one would definitely become a junkie. That was hell on the folks who often thought they were just trying it to experiment.

Different people really do have different levels I guess of what makes them addicted to a strong opiate like that.

"The Boat That Rocked" is a cool little relatively unknown flick with a great soundtrack

He was one of my favorites. Know your limits.

"I'll take all the home teams in the AL, and all the road teams in the NL" (or something like that).

My degenerate gambling friends and I unleash that quote at least once/year.

I was so excited to see what would happen in the next Hunger Games movie with his character. Now it is going to be really weird.

Heroin is a hardcore drug that is very addictive. The purity of heroin on the street can also varies widely, it's possible that Hoffman was used to shooting a certain dosage amount, but got it from another dealer who gave him a more pure form of the drug.

From what I've read, a fatal mistake for those who abstain from using and then come back to it make is they try to pick up with a dosage that is where they left off. But, what they don't realize is their body and tolerance built up to where that was an acceptable dosage before as they needed more to get the same effects. Then, they come back thinking they will shoot that dosage as that is what they were doing before and they overdose. So, it's possible that this and/or it being more pure could play a part. I think I recall the same thing said about River Phoenix when he did it at that club. He hadn't done it for a while and did too much.

I read Hoffman was 23 years sober before a relapse last year. That's just crazy that he came back to it after all that time...especially having kids. I wonder if that was his first time since 23+ years or since his relapse last year?
