Damn shame. Philip Seymour Hoffman is a rare example of an actor who slowly climbed his way to the top by virtue of his talent alone.

"Perhaps we'll see you again sometime, Dude."
    -Brandt

Because it was probably 23 years of never feeling that good again.

If a slightly insensitive remark on the internet about someone you never knew can set you off like this, it'd suck even worse being you.

    "Scotty what the f***?"

Supremely talented actor. Not surprised it was drugs. Between the weight and drugs I thought he was older.

But I was very surprised he had kids. Damn dude.

This. The only thing that helped me kick my demon, C, was seeing my mother go through open-heart-surgery. Knock on wood that I stay away.

Just looked at imdb and his last movie is slated to be a Hunger Games flick. That sux. He was a good actor and should get to go out on a better note than stupid Hunger Games.

It's with you for the rest of your life. But it's like any affliction- blindness, addiction, depression, etc.- it requires constant vigilance, professional help should always be a phone call away, AA meetings for the alcoholics, hobbies, etc. Stay strong, brother. You kick that demon right in the teeth, to sort-of quote Walter White.

A Most Wanted Man, an ecranisation of John le Carre's novel, is coming to theaters in a bit. Early reviews say it's quite good.

Well at least it got him more international and widespread exposure, so more people knew about him before he was gone.

Fortunately, I'm not required to put up with incredibly poor taste. You go right ahead.

Wonder what's going to happen to his current project. I think he's still filming in Hunger Games.

If he's still filming it then that will be his most impressive work to date.

Sad to see...but I think I expected this to happen rather than being shocked that it happened. It's pretty clear he's always had issues.

Tough way to go, sucks for him and his family...RIP.

It depends on the person. I know people that have shot it dozens of times but were never addicted.
