*******. You're going on my ignore list as well. The man just died. He was a brilliant actor and, "He missed the Super Bowl" is what you come up with. It must suck being you.

Hoffman just might be the greatest character actor of his generation. His role in Almost Famous is a good example. Not a large role, but crucial to the flick, and one I remembered walking out of the theatre.

he had a fantastic run in the late 90's, obviously catapulted by his appearances in Paul Thomas Anderson films.

check him out in "Happiness" (1998) by Todd Solondz, and in another funny but underrated scene stealing performance in "Next Stop Wonderland", a romantic comedy from the same year.

brilliant in "The Talented Mr Ripley", superb in everything he appeared in.

    I never even saw "Capote"

    Money doesn't buy happiness.

He needed drugs to get something that was missing inside him.

Amazing actor. RIP.. He will be missed.

It sure doesn't. I always think of Brad Delp, the lead singer of Boston. Had a great career, beautiful wife whom he loved, children whom he loved, millions of fans who he was appreciative of, critical acclaim for being one of the best pure rock singers of all time, band members who he got along with, plenty of money in the bank, beautiful house, acres and acres of land- and in between Boston tours, he did small shows of Beatles covers, which he loved doing b/c they were his all-time favorite band.

And he came home one day, turned on the gas in his house, taped up the windows, and that was that.

    Depression is real.

And in PSH's case, addiction is real. And many people don't turn to it b/c they're unhappy with life- they just gotta have that rush. So, Billy Joel's excuse that he started drinking like an alcoholic again after the 9/11 incident is pure bull s**t. It gave him a reason to do what he secretly always wanted to do- drink regularly and heavily.

    Sorry Lil Pun.

Has heroin made some sort of big comeback? Have I been living under a rock?

    Nasty flipping stuff.

Wow, this really blows. PSH really was one of the best, he had such a range. He could've acted for another thirty years. Makes me sad to think about all the movies we won't get to see him in.

The only other actor dying in recent memory that sucked this much was Heath Ledger. There's another one who had really proved his chops as one of the best of his generation and could have been acting for another half-century. Such a waste.

    RIP

Great actor and while tragic not surprised that it was heroine. Consider how much hell people put themselves through to get it including infections from unclean needles there should be no doubt about how powerful and horrible of an addiction it is.

Damn it! I'm sick of talented people being lost to drug abuse. It's like part of me is sympathetic for PSH and his family and sad that he's gone and another part is PO'd at Hoffman for throwing it all away over heroin.

BTW, for those wondering about Mockingjay, Part 1 was already in the can and Part 2 had only 7 days of filming left(not sure if that's the entire production or just Hoffman's role). Anyway, word is that his part was all but complete. And they can probably tweak the ending a bit if they didn't shoot all of the Plutarch stuff. Maybe give some of his character's scenes to Haymitch.

At the risk of sounding like an inconsiderate dick, I was wondering about that. Good info.

Nothing dickish about it. Most of us think about that stuff the moment it's reported that an actor has passed, especially if it's a big budget blockbuster. Don't tell me people weren't wondering about the fates of The Dark Knight or Fast 7 when news broke of Ledger and Walker's deaths respectively. Personally, I think it just reflects how we're fans of their work and want their final performances to be completed so we can appreciate their acting one last time.

Got this from an old friend that worked with PSH in PR a few years back. Not sure if she got this info from someone else or place or what.

She says, his relapse started with pain pills, from there he moved on to Oxycontin, then snorting and then back to the needle.

Apparently Oxycontin is the bridge that seems to be taking people there a lot more these days.

Come on man, calm down. I don't think he was trying to be disrespectful in any way. ( I may be wrong but it just didn't come across like that to me).
I think he tried to make a silly joke. What if PSH was a Seahawks or Bronco's fan or a big NFL fan?

Anyway, maybe I'm wrong and he meant it in a disrespectful manner, either way, don't get worked up about that. Take it easy man.
