Actually you're right. I didn't play jr. high ball. I played high school ball, started and lettered all 4 years.

We backed into the playoffs last year. We were 6-6 in our last 12 games and fell from like 5th place down to 8th place and we were 23-23 over the last 46 games just treading water.

They were overachieving as a 5th seed. The fact you called howard marginal upgrade over asik doesn't add up. If that's true, then basically morey failed on that signing, correct? To me, a marginal upgrade is like going from asik to say gortat or a healthy tyson chandler. Going from asik to howard is like going from lin o cp3,westbrook or rose. Basically going from a non all star to a all nba guy is pretty significant.

Darn. We are stuck with him one way or the other and I don't think it is a positive!

That's such an arbitrary number to pick. You cherry picked them to make your argument. We were 21-21 and ended at 45-37 so what I see is we went 24-16 to end the year. That hardly seems like treading water now.

We fell out of bed the last month of the season and wound up at 8th after being like around 5th. End of story.

No, Morey didn't fail on signing Dwight. The reason why the upgrade is marginal is because Dwight basically replaced Omer and Omer was arguably the second most important contributor to our success last year. And as long as Omer sits and isn't productive then the signing is a marginal upgrade. Because we're not getting value for Omer...who is right now at worst the 4th best player on this team. On this team with the style of play we have, Dwight is a marginal upgrade. We either have to trade Omer for a very good player at the PF or PG positions to upgrade this team or we gotta get Omer to play alongside and behind Dwight for us to get max value out of the Dwight signing.

Love that rotatation as well. This team needs a true PG in the worst way.

Dmo has been solid, a set role, proper rotation, consistent mins can do that to a player even if it's only 10-15mins can help a young player out.

After watching dmo recently what stands out to me is his rotations on defense, & p&r D. I think he understands that's what the stag wants to see for him to get mins. We struggle with p&r D since asik out and dmo has helps when he's on the floor. I've noticed his perimeter D has also been solid for a 7 footer.

With each passing game the original idea of this thread gets funnier and funnier. Thanks to DMo and Jones the 4 is probably our most solid position on the team

Not a chance. We have a great center, then no one. We have a pretty good young SF, then no one. We have the best SG in the NBA, then.....who? I mean I guess you could argue that if Lin is the backup SG that both of our guard situations are better than PF, but that would be it. Since we have no backup 5 and no competent backup 3 those positions are a lot weaker than the 4.

Agree, while Jones is putting up solid numbers he can not shoot and he is still weak(with that I mean he gets bullied and out-muscled) and while DMo Stepped up the Last Games he is still raw and also struggles with post D(he improved lately though)

Howard is a marginal upgrade over Asik?

Now I know I can't tasked you seriously.

As long as Asik isn't playing or traded for value then Dwight is only a marginal upgrade to last year's team.

I somewhat disagree to this statement.

You take away Delfino, you take away the ability to knock down 3's consistently (personnel changes and poor shooting w/ formerly good shooters), and lastly factor in an even further upgraded Western Conference and the Rockets would probably be lucky to be sniffing 45 win pace at this point.

The Rockets have had some internal upgrades (better play from Jones, Lin, D-Mo, etc), but that would have only offset some of the things that would have cut back their win total otherwise.

When watching Howard, its easy to think that he's only a marginal upgrade, but that upgrade (while seeming small) is a complete game changer. The way teams guard the Rockets completely changes, and the ability to play inside-out hasn't really even been fully utilized yet.

This might not be directed at you, but I think if we are unfortunate enough to see a game where Dwight doesn't play, its going to open alot of peoples eyes here as to how impactful Dwight really has been to this team on both ends. He's already very under-appreciated in Houston it seems because he's just expected to do what he does on a nightly basis and people are already taking it for granted.

But yes- when either Asik is traded or comes back in the lineup, you are going to see this team get a huge upgrade though that might LOOK like a bigger upgrade than Howard for Asik, but its just because its mostly an edge against the competition which will make it SEEM more impactful because after the Asik addition/trade the Rockets will have a card to play that very few other teams have.
