My thought process is Lowry brings everything to the table that RW does (including attitude, which may be a + or - depending on how you look at it), minus scoring, and Durant's demonstrating pretty clearly that he can pick up the scoring slack. And obvious Asik would represent a big upgrade over Perkins.

But yeah, I could see OKC fans rioting, and I doubt Presti shares my thinking. Toronto's giving up a lot too, though I'm sure they'd love to dump Fields (and I'm not sure Lowry and PPat are gonna stay long-term).

That is a stupid argument. Only that wasn't my argument. I was just responding to basketballholic, who was claiming asik + Lin is a fair offer for melo.
I don't think melo will get traded period. But if ny was to pull it off, they certainly would get more out of it, and other teams certainly would have more to offer.

“@NBAFiles: NBA TRADE RUMORS: #Rockets could trade Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin to #Magic for Glen Davis and Jameer Nelson”

-Nelson is on an expiring but Davis has one more year on his contract.

Unless they wanna give us their 2014 1st Rounder, that trade makes less sense than a fish with t*tties

    Trade 1:
    Lin+Smith+1st rd pick for Lowry+Novak

    Trade 2:
    Asik+Garcia for Okafor+Pacers 1st rd pick

Doing both of these trades almost leaves enough room for a max player while still staying in contention for this season.

Highly doubtful IMO. Sounds like wishful thinking from some Magic fan.

That link above sends us to what appears to be a Yahoo "Contributor Network" link and so this "trade rumor" should be ignored.

Rather than posting random trade idea after random trade idea, maybe it is more helpful to explain the logistics and the rationale of the sort of trade that Morey wants to execute. Here are the keys to the Rockets roster makeover:

    1) Identify a team that wants to trade for Jeremy Lin, and who can give up something besides garbage. Jameer Nelson's expiring contract plus a second round pick probably is sufficient.

    2) Identify a team that will give up something more attractive than an expiring contract and a second round pick for Omer Asik. Expiring contracts, a somewhat interesting young player (e.g., Bismack Biyombo), and a lottery-protected first round pick is sufficient and is probably your best case scenario.

    3) Identify a team that is willing to give you a good veteran role player (e.g., Spencer Hawes) for a Donatas Motiejunas-centered package (e.g., Motiejunas + Biyombo + filler)

    4) Identify another team that has a good veteran that it is looking to move (e.g., Kyle Lowry) and trade that team a package centered around the protected first round pick acquired for Asik.

This is the sort of deal that Daryl Morey is trying to make here, not a trade for a "third star" who will cost an arm and a leg. No more Carmelo Anthony trade proposals! Will not happen before Feb 20, and my guess is that it will never happen.

Look for the Knicks to satiate Carmelo by trading one or more of its big contracts set to expire at the end of the 2014-15 season (next season) for somewhat big name guys whose bloated contracts don't expire until the 2015-16 season (or beyond). A Jeff Green-Gerald Walace pupu platter for Amare Stoudemire might be enough to convince Carmelo that the Knicks are trying. Andrea Bargnani's contract also expires at the end of the 2014-15 season, so he could be moved for somebody expensive but pretty good, too. Be grateful you don't have James Dolan as your owner.

This is exactly the sort of idiotic, short-sighted trade I expect from the Knicks between now and Feb 20, and this sort of trade will be enough to convince Carmelo to re-sign with New York:

    Gerald Wallace (contract expires after the 2015-16 season), Jeff Green (expires after 2015-16), Brandon Bass (expires after 2014-15), and Kris Humphries (expires after this season) to New York;

Amare Stoudemire (expires after 2014-15), Andrea Bargnani (expires after 2014-15), and filler (Cole Aldrich, Beno Udrih) to Boston.

Great trade for Boston, as it clears out all of the junk by the end of the 2014-15 season (next season). Boston rebuilds around Rajon Rondo and all of these draft picks, plus Boston can dangle these big expirings with some of these draft picks before next year's trade deadline. Kevin Love to Boston in February 2015?

Anyway, this is the sort of thing that happens with the Knicks. Carmelo will re-sign.

If Tucker was "just another player", the Suns wouldn't have a .617 winning percentage. He has started every game & averages 30 minutes.

Of course, player value is often much, much higher to the team the player is on, especially in the mid-season.

Hope Morey is working everyday because teams are making moves & as of now we have no bench we can count on going into the playoffs.

I've long (after the first few weeks of the season when I realised no-one is capable of decent, consistent lobs) wondered whether we could make a play for Nelson.

Although they make out like bandits if that proposed trade was true.

    They had good chemistry together.

Only problem I'd see is the comment Dwight made about his teammates in Orlando that I seem to recall Nelson took offense too.

No way, Lin is better than Nelson, Asik is better than Glen Davis. If Morey turned down Bass and Lee for Asik, he won't make that ****ty deal.

Its a fair trade IMO, Nelson has been balling lately, and I wouldnt mind him starting over Bev as well, and Davis is great since he can play 4/5.

We overvalue our players as well. It sucks tho cause I really like Lin,but I think Nelson is a better fit, whatever happens tho I trust Morey.

This would be an awesome trade - mainly because it keeps a core intact that has great chemistry that is getting better all the time but adds 2 very talented defenders who can contribute on O as well - and from what I know about them, would only enhance the chemistry of the team, not detract from it as some would.

Forgot to mention above that we would need to include a 2014 first.

Perimter shooting, Perimeter defense and defensive rebounding. We need to address at least 2 of those going into the homestretch.
