Who's a good young actor- someone that could play a character who starts off in a movie at 18 and ends at 29 (basically covering a 11-year span from beginning to end)? So, probably someone in their mid-20s?? Someone who could play a character who suffers from brain damage and has a speech impedient plus seizures- in other words, someone's who really talented due to the complexity of the character? Unfortunately, most of my favorites are at least 30 or older, and this would have be someone who, for most of the story, is mid-20s. Maybe some of you youngins know an actor like this better than me. Thanks for any suggestions!!
Paul Dano. He's 30 but looks very young. Very talented actor. He was Eli in "There Will Be Blood" and the older brother in "Little Miss Sunshine".
My daughter. Lead role in her high school musical/comedy/drama! Kudos, sweetie... you were terrific. -
Matt Jones is younger, and more believable as suffering from brain damage and speech impediment.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is over 30, but doesn't look it. I think Nicholas Hoult is a good actor, not everyone agrees though.
No, not casting but writing something. Doesn't have to have a name attached to it, but sometimes, when you write dialogue, it helps to have someone in mind b/c you can use speech patterns and stuff like that. My first thought was Aaron Paul but he's 35 and I'm not sure he could pull off 17. The problem is that the 17-to-20 period isn't just a flashback, it's a major part of the story. The part that skips a bit is the period from 22 to 27, in that it's not really a more interesting part of the character's life, so it's almost like those 5 years could be covered in a quick montage or something. But the 27 to 29 has to be in there, as does the 17 to 22. I suppose you could almost use 2 different people, unless you have someone that can really pull off 17 as well as 29. All stuff that's in the beginning stage. None of the other characters matter, just this guy and his mom- and there are a number of great female actors in their 40s and 50s that I have in mind. Just the guy is the tricky part. I also thought of James Franco, but I think he's a bit older. Same with Paul Dano- I mean, for what he did in Little Miss Sunshine, he'd be perfect as it would require something similar. Again, none of this matters in writing, but when you "pitch" something like this, it's good to mention, "someone like ______________ would be perfect in this role." I'll know more by April 20. I just asked on this board b/c people here are reasonably intelligent and many of y'all have seen a lot more movies recently than me.
Not Down's Syndrome- basically, someone who was in a car accident, then a coma, then out of it, but suffers from brain damage along with seizures and a speech impediment. You know, one of those tragedy-to-triumph type of things. But Plemons could work- I just haven't seen him in much other than BB.
I was just joking about BB actors, wondering why you didn't mention Paul in the OP, since you're the biggest fan. My real choice would be Jack Huston from Boardwalk Empire/American Hustle. His role in Boardwalk could translate well to explaining your character. He's 31, but that's not too big of an issue. If you pitch it, they'll find a young'in to match it. But Huston is a name, with a role, that paints a picture. Hell, I think he was 27 when Boardwalk started.
