Yup and thanks to the absolutely atrocious special teams blocking on the Texans he wouldn't have helped returning kicks either.
As a 3rd WR, that's all we needed from him. Not sure how much he cost, but it couldn't have been much.
And as a 3rd receiver behind Walter, who'd faded a lot after a couple of good seasons. When Andre went down a couple of years ago, neither of those guys stepped up. Neither was capable of doing more than they were already doing, even with more reps and more targets. That was extremely disappointing. You don't expect them to be Andre, but you do expect them to do more with more playing time and they just couldn't do it. That's when you knew the WR corps outside of Andre was bad. Then Jacoby muffed that punt against Baltimore in the playoffs and that was all she wrote.
Expectations for Hopkins was for him to have a Boldin-esque rookie season (Q had over 1300 yds on 101 receptions with 8 TD). Simple as that.
Agreed he's not a good WR, but he's a plus player overall due to special teams. The outcome I was speaking was the SB. He almost won MVP and set SB records. Very Houston-esk. Holiday's game didn't help either in debunking the curse.
I thought DeAndre Hopkins had a pretty fantastic rookie season given all the turmoil surrounding the offense. And am I the only one still holding out hope for Posey? I thought he looked pretty good when he played. Hopefully a year removed from his injury will help.
In the modern day NFL you have to pick positions you're okay being weaker at. No team is complete. There's not enough cap space to around anymore. That played a big part in it. We made somewhat of a serious investment in Jones and Walter but neither panned out. We brought in Hopkins only because we were in win-now mode. It is what it is.
