BRAND NEW. liked them when i was a teen and they were punk. then their music progressed into a more complete mature anvanced sound. conveniently, i aged right along with their music, so it went hand in hand.

Well, that didn't take long...... Yes, clearly... in the entire history of artistry, even restricted to the contemporary western world... Trent Reznor is by far the superior individual artist.... Afterall, there was nothing before Trent Reznor... Contemporary music didn't start until 1990........

Do people just not realize how idiotic these "greatest" claims are when it comes to modern art....?

Also, it's practically impossible for me to pick ONE personal favorite artist/band.... The selection is far too staggeringly immense....

How do you people do it...?

As Charles himself said it, when qualifying his two separate works, "they're both like my children, except one of them is wealthy."

His solo stuff is terribly sub-par.... It's not horrible music, but it's far removed from his work with the Pixies... Especially every song that doesn't involve Joey Santiago...

For most it's probably a band/artist that was around during their formative adolescent years that just had the biggest impact on them personally.

Generic answer but whatever: The Beatles. They simply did so much. I personally believe the Beatles truly began on Rubber Soul.

Rubber Soul was a folk rock album for sure. A band truly growing up artistically from the days of Hard Day's Night and Beatles for Sale.

Revolver, in my opinion, their Magnum Opus. Consistently amazing and psychedelic.

Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour are both more pop than rock, with the psychedelic flavor heavily attatched.

White Album is my second favorite. Tons of great songs, love it.

Abbey Road, while not a favorite of mine, is still better than 95% of some bands' entire discography.

Let It Be is very underrated, its so simple and more blues inspired.

Overall, completely amazing band who were the definition of consistent. Pet Sounds is my favorite album, but The Beatles albums pretty much round out the rest of my Top 10 lol.

    Metallica.

Not much of a fan now, but they were the first band that introduced me to rock/metal.
