More Manziel analysis by Russ Lande, a former NFL scout. Basically chimes on a lot of the issues already discussed, but thought it deserved being posted here. http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/67254668/nfl-prospect-profile-quarterback-johnny-manziel

O'Brien likes big strong armed guys so no surprise here... That's one down. Teddy and Bortles left to go...
I think the whole, he only likes big QBs is a tad bit overblown. Take Jonny out of it, but if there was a similar sized QB and they really liked what he did, and he clearly the tops of his class and thought he would be their guy, I thinkmBOB will take him. I don't think they're so hung up on size that they will pass up true talent, if they think someone is special. Not saying he's going to take Jonny or that's the pick, but c'mon, people act so sure about what somebody else is going to do. The draft isn't exactly around the corner.
i do get the impression that Manziel won't be a Texan, even if we trade back. But i'm also not as convinced as the rest of this board that we draft a QB in the first round. It's not enough to cross the 3 or 4 top QBs off the list through a process of elimination, with the expectation that the last guy standing will be the Texans pick. The growing lack of consensus around qb value in this draft is disturbing and calls into question the likelihood that we take a QB just because it's a huge need. I keep reminding folks that Matt Schaub is on contract, and perhaps O'Brien wants a chance to see what he can do with him, before doubling down on a rookie. In fact, the author of the sporting news article didn't at least mention the possibility that O'Brien took the texans job because he thought he could rehabilitate Schaub, and liked the talent around him, and the overall talent on the team, rather than the idea that he'll get to draft a QB #1. the alarmism and overreation about Schaub's contribution to our demise this year is not shocking, but it's still wrong. OUr declining o-line, kubiak's unwillingess to modify his gameplan to take advantage of opponents weaknesses, the poor, predictable play calling; Schaub is still a servicable QB, and we ought not reach for one in the 1st if we don't see a franchise QB. There are other options.
Things I've been saying for months... I guess this guy knows nothing about football either just like me... Lol..
seriously. as someone who doesn't want to use the #1 pick on any of these QBs, i am comforted by Pankcake's certainty that we are going QB with the first pick. Here's a crazy idea: how about reuniting Cassel with O'Brien and then using a later draft pick on a developmental QB?
I agree. I think we go QB but there should be no guarantee. Pete Carroll didn't come in and invest all his chips in a QB right away. He took some projects to see what would stick and eventually hit with Wilson. He collected a handful of assets using medium-to-low risk resources because there was no franchise QB staring him in the face. If O'Brien comes in and puts all his chips on a QB then his entire legacy here will be tied directly to that QB. If he uses his most valuable asset on a quarterback that would have been the 4th or 5th QB taken 2 years ago, or possibly 3rd next year... he's putting himself in a very tight box.
Next year's QB draft class should be much better with more options at QB... The Texans may wait until then to draft one...
Wow Manziel looks like an old out of shape midget next to Logan Thomas. I would never have posed for that picture if I were him. Too bad Logan Thomas has no talent. Still the size is daunting. Someone will take a shot on him in 2nd or third round.
