I hate ignorant fools that assume all lin fans must be Asians. This is certainly not true and I know many lin fans that aren't Asians (unless Asian is a new term to describe a fan of Jeremy Lin lol). However, there is no denying that a lot of Asians root for Lin because of his race. His ethnicity is ONE of the many factors that made him popular. Like other posters have said, his underdog story, Christian background, crazy stats during his Linsanity run have all contributed to his popularity....and don't forget this, it was WORLDWIDE news during Linsanity in NY and it was perhaps the most exciting period of time during a regular nba season in history.
I can deal with LOF. They're over the top, borderline insane. Sure, it gets worst when he has a good game, but wins are wins. Losses are losses. At least I know where they stand. LOH, I can't stand. Even worse are the LOH that don't want to admit it. Trust me, they want to see Lin fail. Last night, Lin has a good game, the Rockets win, and they still nitpick/can't be happy with a win. Calderon is a bad defender. Ellis was in foul trouble. Let's see if Lin can do this with Harden back. It never stops. I really wonder if they rather see Lin fail even if it means a Rockets loss, so their point can be proven, as opposed to Lin having a good game and the Rockets win and deal with LOF over the top comments. Even if Lin gets traded, these LOH and closet LOH will find something to complain about, yell that the sky is falling after every loss. Probably drum up the Fire McHale chant. I agree, it's an 82 game season. So far, so good. Sure, things could be better, but look at this starting lineup. New starting PG. New starting PF. New starting C. Garcia fell off on the bench. Caspi new to the team. DMo finally getting some burn. It's a process. Let's just hope they gel and everything starts clicking come playoff time. The real way to look at this is, you can't trade Lin unless we're getting an upgrade at point. Bev and Brooks won't cut it. Lin at least has shown he can show up in a 4th q. Lin makes 8M this season and 8M next season (on the cap). I don't even know how much Bev makes but it's not a lot that's for sure. So basically 48 mins of average/above average of PG play is a pretty good deal.
If Linsanity didnt happen in NY then there would be no Linsanity....or at least not to nearly the same degree
I'm not gonna deny it. Lin is Asian and I want to see an Asian kid succeed in a sport that we usually never show up in (despite it's popularity amongst our 'demographic').
??? Lin succeeding is good for the Rockets. Whether he reclaims a starting gig down the road, or becoming better off the bench. Wanting Lin to fail means the Rockets PG position is now a weakness (currently average/above). We all love Bev's intensity but he just doesn't bring it offensively. LOF overreact. I get this is annoying. LOH borderline hates the mere existence of Lin on this team, acting as if he didn't do well last season as his first full season as a starter coming off an injury. As if he's been nothing but professional being demoted to the bench (unlike Asik)
some of those LOHs are LOFs trolling, and some of those LOFs are LOHs trolling. All I mean is that is that it's perfectly fine for someone to root against another person. There's really no different between rooting for someone and rooting against someone. It's pretty random. You're taking a stranger and either wishing them success or failure. Same thing in my opinion. I root against Lebron. Like a lot of people. That's fine. Sometimes I root for Dirk. Sometimes I root against harden especially during iso moments.
Yeah and he was like 4 injured PGs and a week ago from being outta this league and never seen again. It is what it is.
uhh yes there is, when Lin performs well generally the rockets perform well. the difference is when people make excuses for Lin's poor play on Harden Mchale etc and those wanting to see Lin fail just to spite LOFs are just as bad
You're right.....Some lin fans irritate the hell outta me but it doesn't make me want to see him fail....anyone on a rockets forum who actively roots against a rockets players should not be here. Constructive and realistic criticism is one thing...hate for your team is another
Sure he may have been underrated. But so are a lot of guys that improve when they are juniors in college. Guys that finish their senior year and then go for the NBA are naturally going to be underrated. And so are kids that aren't impressive when they are in 8th grade. if Lin were black out of Harvard, and then finished college, I don't think he would have been drafted. drafting the freshman for potential is just too appealing.
i never said it was GOOD to want him to fail. it's just as RANDOM to want lin to fail as it is to want him to succeed MORE than another player.
If Hardens playing the Cavs game then someones going to the bench I dont care who it is PB or Lin but it aint going to be Harden
This. Have you guys not seen the array of posts suggesting Harden should come off the bench instead of Lin? Lin is one of my favorite players but i friggen lol'd at the thought.
Ridiculous and outlandish. But like a poster above me said, when it comes to Lin, wanting him to fail to spite a block of fans, is counter productive.
