Can someone explain why when looking at Manziel and the big plays he has the comment is "Oh he can't do that in the NFL!" And when looking at the plays Clowney is slacking or not making they say "Well he will try harder in the NFL and start making those plays"?
I don't think anyone says "he will try harder", at least not anyone who knows what they are talking about. The whole lack of effort BS is ridiculous and if you actually saw what was going on, you'd know that. In fact, how about instead of explaining this myself, I'll let Brett Kollmann do it for me. Clowney was one of the most disruptive defensive players in college football THIS year, if he played as well in the NFL as he did this year in South Carolina he'd be an all pro.
So are you insinuating that college is better competition? I am confused. 3 sacks in college translates to All-pro? Well if that were the case, why isn't Jared Crick, Antonio Smith, Brooks Reed and Whitney Mercilus all pro this year?
No, I'm not saying that at all, none of the players you just mentioned were as disruptive as Clowney was this year. I think you are hung up on "3 sacks"....there's more to it than that. It would be like knocking a baseball player for having a low batting average without noticing that his OPS was over 1.000. It just shows that you have a shallow understanding of what was actually going on.
Actually Mercy was much more productive his junior year than Clowney. That is a fact. Shallow understanding? I see a guy who isn't hungry to be great. He is hungry for money. Count me out. You have a shallow understanding of what it takes to be successful. Clowney might be a freak, but so is everyone else in the NFL.
Reaching for a baseball analogy to prove a point. Listen buddy, when someone has a big year and is pronounced to be quite possibly the greatest DE prospect to ever come out of college and you go for 3 sacks(respected coaching staff is happy to get rid of him when he still has a year of eligibility)than you bet your butt I am going to magnify that. This guy has Travis Johnson/Amobi Okoye written all over him.
If going by sack count, sure, but he wasn't anywhere near as disruptive as Clowney. Yes, clearly you have a shallow understanding and are riding that tired trope till the wheels fall off LOL. Thanks for trying though. There hasn't been as gifted a pass rusher coming out of college since Julius Peppers...the fact that you try to make a weird comparison to Mercilus just shows how incredibly skewed your opinion is.
It's not a reach at all, you keep touting sack count as if that's the end all be all and it shows your ignorance. When someone has a 3 sack season and is still touted as the greatest pass rushing prospect to come out of college since Julius Peppers....it's for a reason. LOL Travis Johnson/Amobi Okoye in their wildest dreams were never the prospect Clowney is. I think this will serve as the end of this conversation because you are delusional.
Delusional. You are self hyping a guy who took a year off. And is being questioned by scouts as not having the heart to be great. You can compare TJ to Clowney, as both lacked fire. There will be no end to this conversation, because you sir are the type who doesn't take the players insides in to account. There is no way the Texans will take Clowney. I'd much rather have someone like Teddy who gets better every year, and lives for the game. Clowney will be a bust.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...rterback-over-clowney?campaign=Twitter_nfl_cb Considering that this is coming from McClain...lol
The general knows what's up... He has close ties to McNair. McNair has messed up so many times via trying to win without a franchise qb... It doesn't take a genius to connect the dots and realize we need Teddy 1.1 not some luxury pick.
But but Pancakes knows every move the Texans will make...Lol.. Eveutanlly he may be right so for you guys who want Teddy _ there's still a chance.
Clowney is so a jags' pick. From that perspective you have to ask, how much better does Clowney make Jacksonville? Not a playoff team. Now remember they beat us twice! I don't see why people here think texans have the luxury of passing a QB to grab a potential bust DE.
What does that matter if Clowney was equally productive as a sophmore, and significantly more productive throughtout his 3 year career?
I went back and read a bunch of the stuff that Pancakes wrote "guaranteeing" that the Texans would draft VY, and it's pretty clear that he essentially "deduced" it without any "inside source" disinforming him. I assume that is what is going on here too. I wouldn't write it down as an absolute lock that the Texans will do the opposite of what he guarantees, more that his guarantee bears no relevance at all to what will happen.
