    LOL

As a Doug Flutie fan, he never became a star, unless you simply mean media attention.

He only started 16 games once in his career (one other times 15) and only 10 one other time.

There's sort of a myth out there that Flutie was a really good QB that was never really given his fair due. The truth is his YPA was under 7, he threw too many interceptions, including more interceptions than touchdowns in his one full season as a starter, etc.

My point is that trading for Mallett would be an extremely risky proposition considering the history of how backup QBs have fared with their new teams.

Even if BOB saw something in Mallett, it would be ignorant to trade for him. Mallett is not ready to be a starter over Schaub. We would have to cut Schaub (dead money) in order to sign Mallett to a new contract. The trade would cost us a high draft pick.

We will not be trading for Ryan Mallett.

February 11, 1992. Falcons trade Brett Favre to the Packers for a first round pick.

The last time a backup was traded and he became pretty good was Matt Schaub.

Yeah, I agree. I don't remember Flutie being traded either?

There is just so much wrong with this I don't really know where to start.

    Okay, here goes.

    1. If BOB sees something in Mallett, who are you to question that?
    2. I have a 14 year old cousin who is ready to start over Schaub now.
    3. Mallett is currently under contract, so we don't need to give him a new one.
    4. Schaub is going to be cut no matter what to save like 4 mil this season
    5. Cutting Schaub saves like 10 million dollars in 2015 which would be when we'd need to have a new deal for Mallett.
    6. Mallett wouldn't cost a high draft pick.

Have you ever stopped to consider how many QBs get drafted, or signed as UDFAs, and fail? Now that you've considered that, can you juxtapose it against the incredibly small number of QBs that get traded for? Now do you realize that the odds of failure are pretty similar? Also, how many times did those QBs get traded to run the same offensive system for the guy that originally drafted them?

Right, because Bill O'Brien isn't better equipped to know than us.

He's probably more ready to start over Schaub than anybody in this draft class, so not sure what your point is.

    We're probably cutting Schaub anyway.

Taking a QB with a high draft pick will also cost us a high draft pick.

He was actually traded more than once:

This was before he returned to the NFL to play for the Bills.

But yeah that's all I could think of, didn't think of him much as a star.

Steve Young. San Francisco traded for him. Granted he wasn't a backup at Tampa Bay... But he sure did play like one.

Brees played like a backup till his last year in San Diego. And he got hurt and New Orleans was really the only team willing to give him a big contact and pay him.

Hasselbeck was a backup and got Seattle to the super bowl...

Jake Delhomme was a back up for around 3 years in New Orleans and he helped Carolina get to the super bowl. And he probably would have a ring if his kicker didn't kick the ball out of bounds and gave New England the ball at the 40.

You're talking about STAR quarterbacks... I just want the Texans to win a super bowl or at least compete for one. I'm not jumping up and down for Mallet, but I just want someone who is better than Schaub.

So everybody is assuming that BOB is going to trade for Mallett because he spent a year with him in NE and knows him.

Based on everything I know about Mallett, I'm assuming that BOB is going to stay as far away from him as he possibly can for the exact same reason. Everything I know about Mallett indicates that he is the last person in the world you'd want to depend on for anything.

A couple of pages back, there were a few posts playing up Mallett's preseason press clippings. Go back and compare with the glowing reviews of Case Keenum this past preseason if you want to get an idea about how predictive they are of future performance.

BridgeWater and Manziel are definately better that Schaub.. Well probably all this class is better than Schaub..

I feel like the Way the NFL is played now and days, we would benefit from a QB that can extend the plays. Look what Kap was doing to the Seattle defense. 49er's did loose, but Kap was running all over the place...

We know Manziel can run all over the place, and Bridgewater is undervalued as a runner..

Mallet is still under his rookie contract. It wouldn't effect the cap unless they intend to extend him as soon as they traded for him which they wouldn't have to do. But if they did they could probably cut a player or two.

But that's only if they traded for him. Rumors just the same but still worth keeping an eye on especially seeing how O'Brien and Mallet have a connection and he's a big strong armed quarterback _ the kind that's rumored O'Brien likes.

Maybe trade back with Cleveland if they want Johnny bad enough and get their 2nd and 4th round pick in this year's draft and their 1st round pick in next year's draft and use their 2nd round pick to get Mallet.

In that division that Cleveland pick will probably be a top 5 pick next year.

Mallet is a big time party boy too...

Doubt that's what OB is looking for.

    Not worried.

Word is out that they apparently really want Bortles

    1. He has the size to handle the beating that the North teams give him
    2. Pattine wants "high character" guys

I do think the Manziel stuff was severely over blown, I was a college student once
