Uhhh...everyone on Boston could shoot decently? Are you forgetting about Kendrick Perkins? He makes Howard look like KD v2.0.
Not sure if this counts as recently, but go back and look at how Terry Porter and Clyde Drexler played together in Portland back when Clyde was putting up 25ish points, 6ish assists and Porter was averaging a double double in assists and points.
I don't know where we're getting that Rondo is a top 5 PG - he was ranked #12 last season and #18 the season before on Hollinger (same season Lin was #9).
Looking back at some other sites rankings, yes many have him at 4 or 5 last year and Lin at 14 or 15 same season.
If we get rondo we will have to bring in bass or will be a fail playing next to harden without a shot. If you watch rondo in the past and now, his body of work comes off SOLID screens from KG & BASS and doc rivers pick & roll offense. With guys that can also hit the midrange shot. If he's comes to Houston it won't be anything like that with jones and casspi at PF. No pg will be great in our system unless we have a SOLID experienced PF. That's why harden is the best playmaker because he just goes in and can get fouled. But at the same time you can look at him last year while getting picks from ASIK and argue that he was a more efficient player "and the numbers show that" Same with dragic & Lowry those guys are in a SOLID pick and roll offense. Not to compare Lin to any of those guys but put him in a offense that he will get SOLID picks every play, & guys that like to roll to the basket with him, you will see his assist go up, points go up & turnovers go down.
I wouldn't of called Ginobli top 5 but that may be the closest, and I wouldn't of considered Allen top 5 either.... I do like the Porter and Drexler mention by HamJam, but it does seem to be a rare thing to occur
Well, Ginobli was 3rd team all NBA team in both 2011 and 2005 so I'd have to say that he was a top 5 shooting guard those seasons. BTW it is rare to have a top 5 shooting guard paired with a top 5 PG period. In fact it's hard to pair two top 5 players at any position together. I guess the obvious question is when was a top 5 pg paired with a top 5 sg and it ended up with negative results?
if the celtics are trading rondo to the rockets, they will want bev and not lin...it would be a trade around asik, bev at minimum.
West and Goodrich Hardaway and Richmond Hornacek and Stockton (Jeff wasn't top five, but he was probably a top 10 shooting guard in the 90's when there was quite some talent there) Maravich and Hudson Robinson and McGlocklin Frazier and Monroe Dumars and Thomas Billups and Hamilton Nash and Finley Parker and Ginobili Davis and Blackmon Cousey and Sharman Heck how about the Rockets own Francis/Mobley and Murphy/Newlin? It is rare in that it is rare for teams to get a top 5 player in two positions. It is not that it doesn't work, most of the backcourts listed had incredible success.
