X2. Why get a pg who can't shoot 3s just like Rubio. Harden is not going to be efficient if he doesn't have the ball. His game is driving with the ball. Without that, he will not be an all star. But if he handles the ball a lot, what is the use of a Rondo who can't shoot 3s? I just started a thread exploring the possibility of having Harden just plays the pg for good. He did that in OKC and won the 6th Man. So why not? He just had an off night offensively but still dished out 13 assists. Man, that is elite playmaking. If he plays point, both Lin and Bev are just too unreliable spot up shooters to complement him. I say we should get a Steve Kerr alike player, like the time of MJ's Bulls. There is a cheap option out there, Jimmer Fredette, an awesome pure 3 pt shooter, 50% in Nov, 42% Dec and 55% January. He is like a smaller Redick who can score 3s by the load. So with him and Parsons, we have 2 really dependable 3 pg specialists for Harden to dish out, and for Howard to play inside out when doubled. Lin can play the backup to Harden for playmaking. Bev proves he is a really good ball pressure defender but his offense really not like any of the elite pgs in the West. If we are contending team, Bev should be a specialist on defense and let Harden & Lin do the playmaking. Then perhaps we have some chance in playoff. At least we don't have to lose these close games.
A Harden-Fredette backcourt could work if Harden would show a modicum of defensive competency. As it is, every other backcourt in the league would have a shot at GOAT status every time they would face the Harden-Fredette duo. They would circle the date on the calendar - a once in a lifetime chance to really light it up.
Sure we could use Rondo, but that's if Ainge is willing to give him up. Rondo said in interview yday that he wouldn't mind staying celtic for rest of his career on current salary.
NBA players coming back from ACL knee injuries have not done well this year. See Kobe and Derrick Rose...Morey should wait and see if he is able to be his old self again before he even thinks of trading for him.
In this system Rondo's not gonna do anything. The guy needs to pound the ball the entire clock to be effective, not share playmaking duties with the 2-4
It's about fit. Rondo can't shoot 3's or FTs, and neither can any of our bigs. If you play Rondo in the same line-up as Howard/Jones, all our opponent needs to do is send their best wing defender to lock down Harden while the others clog the paint. In his championship year Rondo played with Garnett, Pierce, and Ray Allen - all of them very good shooters. Different line-up, different scenario.
Let me preface by saying I would totally be in favor of getting Rondo..... but I'm trying to remember in recent history when a top 5 PG was teamed up with a top 5 SG and how it worked out, can't seem to think of any recently
This. Rondo was effective because their opponents had to pick their poison since everyone on boston could shoot decently. This gave Rondo the abillity to score a lot since they were scared to guard the other players. how do you think he averages so many assists?
