I have and continue to be on the "Play Dead for Ted" bandwagon. I think the most important trait for a successful QB is smarts and from everything I have seen, read, and heard of Bridgewater he is the smartest QB in this draft. Add in enough athleticism to avoid the rush and arm strength to make the passes and I am sold. Furthermore, the other QB options seem mediocre at best. We don't have a lot of cap available for a good FA, and the ones people are talking about at this point (McCown?) or the return of Schaub or Keenum? Oy. Then we will need to re-visit the QB ext season, and with almost a certainty even less options (unless you are thinking that a McCown or Shaub/Keenum led team will be back at the top of the draft next season?). I say get the QB this draft, and look at line, or any of the defensive needs later in this draft, or via less expensive FA moves this season. And when next year's draft roles around, use the #1 then to look at DE, or OLB, or NT, or OT. Since hopefully we will be drafting mid-pack next season, where those positions will be easier to fill (than QB).
Logan really regressed over his time at college. And Beamer is a special teams guru not a QB guru. But Logan does have the best physical makeup out of this QB class and probably the best arm. IF he can be coached and IF he can learn and IF O'Brien thinks he can work with him _ I'll take him. Especially if they can get him in the 5th round and bring in Josh McCown, Freeman, or whoever while Logan rides the bench and develops and it costs them nothing if he doesn't work out. I'm not really fund of this quarterback draft class period. It's no different than last year's quarterback prospects in my opinion. A bunch of question mark and or lackluster guys.
The same can be said for every draft since like 05'. Outside of Andrew Luck, there hasn't been a "sure thing" drafted at QB in a LOOOOOOOOOONG time. What's your point? It's completely different from last years draft class. A lot of people didn't think that there were ANY QB's worth a 1st round pick, as opposed to this season, where the consensus is that there are at least 3. And drafting Logan Thomas in the 5th round and bringing in McCown?!?! The people on this board are right, you are definitely in troll territory... Spoiler
You finally realized? Remii ran me off this thread. He polluted it with horrible ideas and has to challenge anything anyone says. He isn't open to anyone's ideas but their own.
What is the point of drafting QB's in the second/third/etc rounds if the Texans already have 3 qb's on the roster that can fill in the backup void. Taking QB's in the later rounds and hoping they will eventually be your franchise guy is ridiculous. Two QB's in this draft will be every day starters in this league. JFF and TB
I know some guys on the Penn State team BOB is an X's and O's guy, you gotta come mechanically sound.
HAHAHA! That's cause you give me endless material to use! It's one thing to make arguments that no one agrees with, but the things you say make people on both sides think "Huh?!?!, what is this dude talking about".....LMBO!!!
Lots of Video supporting his analysis. http://uncensoredwriting.blogspot.com/2014/01/scouting-2014-nfl-draft-teddy.html The first word that comes to mind when watching Bridgewater is smooth. Everything he does looks so effortless. He is doing these incredible things, but he makes it all look very easy. Nitpicking, he could handle pressure better as the bailing out technique can cause some serious losses, his deep ball consistency could use some work, and he looks a little thin which could cause injury issues. Other than that, hoo boy, I think I'm in love. I really like Blake Bortles, but Bridgewater is just better. That smoothness also makes me think his success is more easily repeatable than Bortles. That is why I give him the edge and rank him as my #1 quarterback that I have scouted so far. I think the Texans would be crazy to pass on him, even for a physical freak like Jadeveon Clowney. The quarterback position is by far the most important position in football, and that is why it would be a huge mistake to take anyone other than Teddy Bridgewater.
His mechanics are great as is his vision. The ability to pick up blitzing linebackers is typically what separates the elites from the good. Brees, Manning, Brady and Rodgers are some that are almost unblitzable. We saw first hand (Keenum) what happens when a QB can't do this. Unfortunately there's not much more that can be said right now until the scouting combine when we get to see his real height, weight, speed and accuracy. How anyone has Bortles or Johnny ahead of him at this point is mind boggling to me.
This is how i've been feeling day 1. Sports radio and the media are trying there best to pump up johnny boy. Mcclain said it himself I would love for the texans to draft him because he would be great to cover.
I am puzzled by you sometimes. First you talk about Jimmy Garrappolo who I think is a decent prospect (2nd 3rd rd) with a good arm and great accuracy and then you toss in Logan Thomas who is not accurate, throws a little better than 1 to 1 td/int, doesn't win and biggest red flag is worse than he started. Then you bring up McCown who I think is great on and off the field and in the same breathe throw in Freeman who I think is crap on and off the field. It's the same problem you have not being able to separate Teddy Bridgewater from the field. You say you watched him in the Houston and Florida and wasn't impressed. You could argue Houston and I would disagree but at least there is a little argument there but Florida he decimated early. How can you not see that. How can you not see his pocket presence, accuracy and fundamental skills. You are better off arguing he has small hands. At least there is no conclusive evidence.
The reason is durability concerns. Ted has a small build. RGIII's multiple injuries are fresh on people's minds. An injured QB isn't very helpful to a team...
The article posted above clarifies all that. Teams aren't worried about that, their saying he can fill out his build
" Even though some reports claim that NFL teams are also concerned about Bridgewater's general physique, numerous scouts I have spoken to are not worried about this and feel that he will add weight and fill out as most players do once they are in the NFL. " http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/67196174/teddy-bridgewater-nfl-draft-profile Now if Teddy Two Gloves can walk on water, we are golden. Ultimately all I care about is if he can win games.
