If they don't want a slow rebuild they may should bring in a veteran QB and try to recapture the division how they won it the first couple of times and that was by dominating on defense. As bad as Schaub was the only real problem the Texans had with him was throwing TDs to the opposing team and under throwing receivers. It shouldn't be hard to upgrade to a QB who's more capable than Schaub.
His name is Teddy Bridgewater. HIS NAME is Teddy Bridgewater. HIS NAME IS TEDDY BRIDGEWATER!!!!!! Ready For Teddy, baby!!! Luck gonna crap himself.
There were far more pressing issues with Schaub than the two elementary ones you listed. It's cute how little you know about football. Do you still think Romeo gets to decide 1.1???
Bridgewater gives us the best chance to win the South next year He has the hallmarks of a potential great qb Nothing is for certain but out of everyone else in the draft he gives us the best chance. Just a natural qb
One of the main problems with not drafting a quarterback in the first round (whether it's with the first pick of after a trade back) is how difficult it will be to find a QB to eventually lead the Texans. Matt Schaub is likely done in Houston, so he's not an option. Case Keenum will be given a shot, but after displaying an inability to go through progressions or handle the blitz, his future doesn't seem too bright. The only FA QBs worth looking at are Michael Vick and Josh McCown, and neither one of them is anywhere close to a long-term option. And the QBs in the later rounds are all pretty unexciting, and even the most notable ones (Zach Mettenberger) need a ton of work before they will be able to succeed. I think Clowney would be an awesome pick, and I'm all for the Texans doing anything to upgrade the defense. But in order to truly turn a team around and instantly win in this league, you need a franchise quarterback. And they can only be found at the top of this draft. Possessing the first pick is a luxury the Texans likely won't taste for a long time after this. The team is simply too talented to suck as bad as they did last season moving forwards. This might be the last chance the Texans have to draft a franchise QB in a long time. So if you think that Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel or Blake Borltes could be that guy, you have to take him.
The Texans save 4mil + ~$12mil per season for each season he's on the roster. So they way you're looking at it is wrong, because for each season Schaub is on the roster, his base salary is added to their cap. For reference, $12mil gets you a pro-bowl(but probably not all-pro) caliber player in FA. So your comparison should be Schaub + Clowney vs. Bridgewater + what the Texans can get for $12mil.
Of course there were more issues with Schaub. I just listed two of the main ones in my opinion. And Kubiak's predictable play calling had alot to do with it as well... And I never said Romeo will decide what the Texans will do with the #1 pick... I said if Romeo says they should draft Clowney with the number one pick Bob McNair, Smith, and O'Brien will probably listen. Because the Texans have already made it perfectly clear that the coaches will also be evaluating players (not just Smith). Interesting how you like to point out how little other people know about the sport, but you're so full of your Bridgewater love that you assume they wouldn't pay attention to what the guy in the room with 5 super bowl rings has to say about a player.
So do you think Denver was worried about a long term option when they went after Manning....? Josh may still have a good 2-3 years left in him. And how can anyone expect Case to go through his progression and handle the blitz when the offensive line couldn't even handle the blitz. Plus the best offensive weapon on the team was hurt in Foster. And O.D. was the 2nd best receiving option and he was hurt as well... And Oh Yea, Kubiak was calling the plays. I think these things should be taking into account before we just throw Case in the trash like this team was set up perfect around him.
Unfortunately there is no consensus franchise type qb in this draft. The only player who is even remotely close to being considered that type of player is Clowney. You take the best player because if you have more of the best players on your team you will win more often than not.
Josh McCown isn't even close to Peyton Manning. Getting Peyton creates a contender; McCown would simply be an at-best competent quarterback that could hold ship for a short period of time. Also, I said Case would be given a chance, as he deserves one. It's just my opinion that he won't succeed based on last season. It's perfectly fair for you to think otherwise. It's not for either you or me to decide whether there's a franchise quarterback in the draft. Many believe that Bridgewater will be one, and many believe that he won't be. It all comes down to what the Texans coaches and front office believes, and I can guarantee you that if they believe there's a franchise quarterback in the draft, they will take him with the first pick or trade down to get him.
Did you see any Bears game this year...??? Because McCown was one of the best QBs in the league when he was on the field this past year and he was alot more than competent.
We're officially 100 days away from the draft! Still plenty of time to change, but I'm still in camp Teddy.
Look how in sync he is with the Bearcats fight song. That's a kid he is a quick study, with rhythm to boot.
If O'Brien sees this video and decides to not draft Teddy, he should be fired immediately. Kid displays great leadership and poise here. Ice in his veins. /thread
