I think this part Cullen is a good few miles southwest of the part of Cullen by UH. Next time I fly from Hobby, I guess I'll take the 288 to Airport scenic route.
cambridge oaks was such a ****house. how much they were charging people to live in such a ****ty apt ( all be it close to campus ) was ridiculous.
Not true. real crime happens in places where people are all criminals so it never gets reported and doesn't make these lists...
My 80-something year old Italian grandmother lives 4 miles east on Reed Rd. Should she evacuate to Katy?
I just took a tour of the area. Somebody was started tailing my Google car, so I got the hell out of there.
Ok no surprise that Detroit and East St. Louis were up there. But not a single Oakland mention? No sane person ventures through the shady parts of OAK at night.
We used to go down there a lot and hit up Mac's wholesale beer for mix and match cases for our weekend supplies. Not sure if Mac's was in that same zone, but it was close -- never had any problems.
I've driven down both Scott and Cullen plenty of times on my way home to Pearland when 288 was gridlocked. Cullen isn't so bad since it's mostly businesses and a busy road, but Scott is not a street you want to go down at night without a gun. The only street that I like driving down less is Alabama St on the east side of 59.
I grew up in Southeast Houston, spent time in school in 5th Ward so I think I know how to keep out of dangerous situations. I used to ride metro from school and stop by the Screw tape shop all the time as a kid. Don't be caught slippin' (flaunting wealth) and try to make friends with your neighbors. Bad things usually happen to bad people in bad neighborhoods.
I'm sure that area is horrible year-round, but the absolute worst I've ever seen it in Houston was the southwest part of town after Katrina and we had all the visitors from New Orleans. That was bad.
Yeah, I think that is actually the part of town with serious crime going on. Drugs, violence, crazy stuff. People don't care about going to jail in that section of the map in the thread but the stakes are lower. What I've heard from a cop friend...
Looooooong time ago. 95-96. At the time, I thought the apartment complex itself wasn't that bad, and it was gated, so I guess that was kind of ok. But my standards weren't very high. I was 23 or something. The UH athletes also lived there. I remember getting out of my car and everything seemed dark above me, even though it was in the middle of the day. Looked up and it was the 7-3, several hundred pound guy that played center on the UH basketball team who just got out of his car at the next space (I think he also played on the football team, didn't look very athletic, quite overweight).
I typed my address into that and found that my neighborhood: has one of the highest concentrations of divorcees living here than of any neighborhood, a higher concentration than NeighborhoodScout found in 99.8% of U.S. neighborhoods. has more Canadian and Eastern European than nearly any neighborhood in America has a greater proportion of its residents active in the military than 97.6% of other U.S. neighborhoods.
