Yes, see latest forecast discussion below. This time snow and sleet more likely than another ice storm for Houston.
Current model runs do not look favorable for Central Texas (west of College Station). Austin/SA look pretty dry. Ugh.
The 18z GFS forecast tends to exaggerate precipitation. The 00z model run should be much more accurate.
If UH doesn't cancel classes tuesday, it's gonna be a pain getting to school! Not looking forward to that commute.
We had two inches up on Nacogdoches this week. Wasn't too bad on the roads. Warmed up quickly. I'll be driving around Houston on Tuesday and back up to Nacogdoches that evening... Getting a little worried about the trip and elevated roadways.
With all this cold weather, i figured this would be the best place to ask: Does the "auxiliary heating" feature in a central air system actually work? I ask because, my folks just got a high efficiency central air system and it struggled with that last cold front. They kept it at 75F, but the doggone thing couldn't even keep it above 72. The worst part wasn't the air temperature; the machine would eventually switch to the "auxiliary heating" mode and basically blast cold air into the house. Without fail, the temp would proceed to drop quickly and my folks would get PO'd. From what little I read online, auxiliary heating is supposed to help maintain a temperature with heating coils when the regular system is struggling to catch up. Am I doing something wrong, or does this "feature" actually suck?
Tomorrow will be interesting at work. Everyone will be able to get into work, but the problem is people could be stranded in downtown depending on the driving conditions. Managers will have to make a decision by end of day today on how work will be handled tomorrow.
I'll be outa here at 3. I'm not going through this highway, wait for hours while nobody moves BS again.
It did a great job this past summer, so my folks aren't convinced it is a manufacturing/installing problem. I don't know the details, but they recently got a technician to check it out and he found nothing wrong. I'm not familiar with these newer efficiency models, but it just seems weird that their previous system never had these issues (even though it was an energy hog).
12z GFS run as of now. Trending much drier than yesterday. Looks like a wait and see what radar trends start to do this evening into tomorrow to see what we can expect.
OH, NO!!! I live right on the line between 1"-2" and .10"-.25"!!!! Am I going to get 2.25"?!?!?!? Inches of snow, I mean.
It is still hard to tell. You may get .25" of ice with 2" of snow on top of it or just a lot of ice. Here is the WRF Model output. It shows quite the ice storm developing and lasting into Wednesday
Does this mean that the Rockets game for tomorrow could be canceled depending on weather and also since the rockets have to play the following day in Dallas. Leaving Houston could be dangerous Tuesday night.
