Wilson is a way better passer than manziel and played in a pro-style offense in college. The only thing they compare in is size and the ability to run. You have to play a certain way for manziel to succeed whereas bridgewater is capable of playing in any offense.
I don't think Manziel is#1 pick worthy. I do think hes good, but I also think he benefited from having an elite OL in college, as well as a somewhat weak schedule. Yes they're in the SEC, but outside of Bama and OU there aren't really many impressive wins in year 1. Year 2 he improved as a passer, but putting up crazy stats against SHSU, SMU, UTEP, etc doesn't really earn points in my book. If you give him an average OL, I think it's a completely different story. With that being said, I still think he has a high ceiling and could potentially have success in the NFL, but just too risky to take as the #1 pick.
College stats and signature wins don't mean **** in the NFL. Nobody gives serious consideration to those 2 factors. Guys with great stats get passed up all the time. Guys with no signature wins can go in the top 10.
Get the combine here already. Can't wait to see Manziel and Teddy ultimately get called Equal from a physical and athletic standpoint.
Well there's absolutely no way that happens. Manziel is a lot faster and quicker than Teddy Bridgewater so he'll probably have much better results in the running drills. I don't think there is any question that Manziel is the more athletic of the two.
Tell that to the Bridgewater honks in here who say he's a better prospect than Manziel. I think they are equal in what matters to NFL scouts and that's physical stools for now. I expect B.O.B. To make his choice based on the sit downs and it will be close.
I believe Manziel is clearly the better college football player...and Bridgewater the better NFL prospect. Just my opinion after watching both play the last 2 seasons.
That's where I lean too. And I also feel that at the end of the day neither will be all that spectacular of a prospect compared to Luck/RG3 or Roethlisberger/Manning/Rivers. More on the Newton/Bradford/Leinart/Rodgers scale at best (Newton probably being the most highly valued), as far as perceived quality/value of the prospect.
Well I'm no Bridgewater fanatic, but Teddy is the better NFL prospect. That doesn't mean that Manziel isn't the more athletic of the two. If you had to pick a running back or kick returner out of the two of them, it'd be JFF all day long.
Well said, I think the same, and I started the thread. I do believe JF will succeed in the NFL a la Fran Tarkenton. TB is likely the better choice for the Texans, but they may take Clowney number one, which will be a mistake. Likely he gets "paid" then he has a mystery injury and sits like Asik. He may have great potential, but potential doesn't win games.
No one is debating athleticism, however to say "much better" is a complete hyperbole Bridgewater has not been a position to demonstrate much athleticism due to the offense. Manziel's offense allows him to run around like a chicken with his head cut off
Is Clowney was my son I would be like bro, quit the team we're getting you a trainer, chef and agent. Focus on your studies in the meantime. Of course the media would have had a fit. Herbstreit would be on TV crying, talking about "the love of the game" and "passion" and the sport being "ruined" and all kinds of other butt hurt illogical mumbo jumbo BS.
Now REEKO_HTOWN, this is a good example of one of those "Bridgewater honks" you were talking about. Their attachment to Bridgewater won't allow them to accept that anyone is "much better" than him at literally anything. If I posted about how JJ Watt was "much stronger" than Bridgewater, they'd take exception to it probably saying something like "He just hasn't had the opportunity to show how strong he is".
I would have rather him sit out for the year and prepare (although highly ranked plays don't usually do that) than commit to a team and play half-a**
And like that guy Cossell or whatever pointed out, Manziel doesn't make the hot throw/smart decision and puts himself in a position to make the flashier play. I want the smarter QB. It will be Teddy B.
You sound psychotic Stop overrating the kid...he is athletic but he isn't farther ahead of other qbs in the draft I can make the argument that Bortles is just as athletic for his size
Anyone seen this around town anywhere? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>I think Houston Texans fans want Johnny Manziel, you guys... <a href="http://t.co/60sabzE6j4">http://t.co/60sabzE6j4</a> <a href="http://t.co/qIGrrwXILE">pic.twitter.com/qIGrrwXILE</a></p>— LostLettermen.com (@LostLettermen) <a href="https://twitter.com/LostLettermen/statuses/427840898219515905">January 27, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
If Cosell sees it. BOB certainly sees it. Won't be surprised if Manziel is completely off his board in all honesty
I really do hate it when people bring up Fran Tarkenton when talking about a player of today.....it's not a compliment. This isn't the 60's or 70's, players are bigger, faster, and stronger than they were in those days. Tarkenton's style of running around like an idiot while completing 57% of his passes for 2500 yards or whatever and averaging 20 interceptions per year wouldn't be good enough for a bench role today. In fact, if someone like Tarkenton did get a chance in the NFL today, he'd probably end up in the hospital regularly. However, in Manziel's case, that could be exactly the QB he will be in the NFL.
