Boy some of you guys really need to take a clutchfans hiatus. This team is so terribul, they're soft, can't beat good teams, can't beat bad teams, can't shoot, can't play D, McHale can't coach, Harden isn't a superstar, Dwight isn't a scorer, Parsons is a role player, our PG's are a scrub and an all-star, depending on what fan you ask. Given all this I'm surprised we won any any games. This team is 29-17 in it's first season and is an unfinished product. For god sakes let the season play out.
Morey got rid McGrady when he absolutely sucked and turned a bunch of draft picks into James Harden and oh we got Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons Even freaking Jeremy Lin Morey > you.
It makes the Rox too easy to defend, need some variety, even the old DIT offense of Rudy had midrange. DD
Blaming Moreyball is stupid for these losses. Analytics do not win or lose games for you, that's up to the players and coaches.
3. Trade ___,___,___, and ____ for consistent sharpshooters, a vet floor general who can take control and orchestrate, and a defensive wing who isn't a complete liability (12.5%) from the 3.
But last time I checked, Morey picked & chose the players & coach that fit into HIS system the previous coach refused to buy into. Coach Morey
I hate to concede to the lower point. Its not just "upto the players and coaches." I like McHale, but you don't hire him out of nowhere for his fabled offensive scheme, they are basically implementing what Morey thinks is good basketball. For the record, Morey also said that coaches don't make a difference (which is a pretty stupid thing to say).
I don't believe he thinks coaches don't make a difference. I think he believes that generally coaches don't make a significant difference, positive or negative, other than the cream of the crop(which generally aren't available) and the bottom of the barrel.
"Former Grizzlies HC, current SiriusXM NBA Radio host Lionel Hollins talks about the role analytics play in the NBA http://t.co/LI0D5vtO1t " -interesting convo, I like when he says "you can look at numbers for certain players but if they don't have the HEART or the TOUGHNESS or everything's that required to win. So if you only use your eyes you can lose out or if you only lose stats you going to lose out."
I don't get or understand all the posts that say Morey needs to stop being the coach and only be the GM. As the GM, his job is to have a philosophy and bring in the best players that he can with what he has to work with already from the team and assets. He has done a good job with that, along with some hits and misses; but he still has gotten us HARDEN AND HOWARD over the last two years. Anyone that doesn't respect this accomplishment by itself, is really lying to themselves only. He also got Parsons on the cheap in the second round, and Lin and Asik that were both huge in helping us make the playoffs for the first time in a while last season. He also got us Bev on the cheap, which almost everyone agrees that he is a very good asset and help on this team; regardless of how you think he should be played. So the question is, does he tell McHale how to coach the team? In every interview I have heard, he has always said "The coaching decisions are up to McHale" for who starts, etc. I think if you mean that if a coach wants certain players, and that Morey goes about getting players and using assets the best way that he sees fit without regard to how the coaching staff wants him to do it, well I would say that this is his job. Otherwise, you may as well make the coach the GM. I think it's the coaches job to figure out the best way to utilize the players that the GM brings in and understand that the GMs job is to get the best players possible, even if he has to trade your favorite players. Typically, coaches look at game to game and try to win each and every game, so short term view; and GMs look toward the longer term and how to position the team to compete and win a possible championship. This by nature will mean that they sometimes disagree on the moves necessary to be made. But also by nature, the GM is a higher position and the coach should have to adjust to the players given to him by the GM, and not the GM try to adjust to bring in the players that the coaches want. So I think Morey's system has been GREAT!! He has put two of the biggest stars in the league on our team in the last two years from a position that no one in the league believed he could do it from. Over the next year or two, I predict that he will continue to improve our team's talent. I give him an A++++. You can't expect him to do it all this year already. It's up to the coaches to make it work as best as possible with what they are given. In that aspect, although our record is decent, I think our coaching system is failing. So if there was one area that I had to give Morey a not so good grade, it would be in his choosing of the current coaching staff. But then again, he still has time to make a drastic change in that also over the next year or two. Time will tell.
Spot on, FANfrom86toNow! The problem we are having on the offensive end is not Moreyball; it just the opposite. When we are getting AWAY from it that is causing problems offensively. This inside out game is simply not working. Dwight gets frustrated easily and loses his focus. Once he gets the ball, he becomes robotic and has one track mind--scoring! Ball sticks in his hand more often than not. This turns others into 'watchers.' Why run around like a bunch dummies when they won't get the ball back? There is no X's and O's AFTER Dwight gets his ball down low. Everyone clears one side for Dwight Show. Asik and Smith are great pick setters. Lots of PnR's from top of the picks for Harden and Lin last year. They even set picks for each other. Now we hardly run them because Dwight and Jones are terrible pick setters, nor do they have the 'nose' of Karl Malone or Stoudemire as a roll man. Those guys know how to roll to the basket. We had one of the highest scoring backcourt in NBA last year. This year we are just mediocre. Our offense has regressed and it's not coincidental that we are missing Asik and Smith's picks in initiating our offense for Lin and Harden. No matter how good Harden is, he still needs picks.
? Well you're posting here too so..... But yeah I didn't mean Daryl Morey has to go, but his philosphy of ONLY shooting 3s and layups does. We're not shooting the 3 very good at all. It'd be fine if we had good 3 point shooters like we did when this first started but our shooters are inconcistent. We need a midrange game. Morey is a great GM though he's made some questionable moves like the poison pill contracts.
No, not really. A large number of us simply believe that you run at the mouth incessantly, and waste a good deal of our time. A decent alternative might be to pretend that you don't exist. I think I'll take that route.
who's the r****d that rep comment me calling me a lof? u lof/loh ruined clutchfans. im a rockets only fan, hence the username "rocketsballin" not "linballin" or "hardenballin" . cant say anything here without being called a lof or loh lol ****in idiots mchale isnt that good when it comes to x's and o's. he's average as an in game coach. most of hsi impacti s off the court. so demote him to lead assistant, and get a head coach who knows the x's and o's of basketball mchale was supposed to be a rebuilding coach and he did his job well. now the rockets have a good playoff roster, where finch is supposed to take over, but thats not happening for some reason.
I think you have to trust Morey. He brought in Howard this year, Harden last year, and Parsons the year before with a second round pick.
I agree with this. I think Morey has done a great job and I also believe in his "Moreyball" system. If the Rockets can find a way to be a better offensive rebound team, the system will be perfect.
