http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/25-most-dangerous-neighborhoods/ 6th most dangerous in the country
Google maps needs a feature that says "I know you buddy, this is not a part of town you should be in.." and shows like a gray area.. Theres been a couple times where they have put me in some binds
yes I wish Garmin had this as well, but I imagine if Sharpton or Jackson got wind of it, it would be a massive lawsuit and a PR nightmare
Used to live there south of Worthing HS. Can't believe I used to roam that area as a little kid without a care in the world.
How much would you (the readers of this post) have to get paid to be willing to live in an apartment in #1 for 1 year? Notice I took all precautions to avoid the "you'd have to get paid very very very little to live there" jokes.
You couldn't. That 1 in 7 chance of being a victim of violent crime probably goes up exponentially with a big salary. Unless part of this situation allows me to hire a private security team with the money.
It's not so bad when I used to live there. I would walk by myself to the local fish fry place to play Marvel vs. Capcom. My grandma at 60, would walk back and forth down our neighborhood streets because she liked to roam around. Hell, me and some friends used to roller blade up and down the streets late at night.
Although, I do admit at one point when I used to walk home from Carnegie Elementary (before it got turned into a magnet school), I remember a car pulled up and the driver asked me if I wanted a ride. I said no and casually walked home. Now that I think about it, I could have been kidnapped for all I know. Good times.
Right, because putting money in the bank always deters desperate criminals from trying to rob someone. Especially someone who would appear to be way out of place in that environment with no friends. I answered the question asked. I won't pretend to be some tuff-guy... I would not do well there.
I lived on Cullen Blvd. when I was living in Houston. Cullen Blvd./Scott St. In the Cambridge Oaks apartments at the corner of the UH campus. Three people got robbed at gunpoint while I was there, one girl got raped on campus and one female professor from another school got killed in the drive-through of the McDonald's. When my parents came to visit for my graduation, they naively asked if they could rent bicycles and ride them around the neighborhood. I advised them not to do that since just a few days before, some guy got shot for his Air Jordans in the park nearby (forgot the name).
Oh the irony. I once drove by the area and had to get some gas and remember being absolutely terrified. I had no idea that it was this high up on the list though
Wow, I spent most of my childhood right in the middle of that map and visit my family and stay there every time I come to Houston. It's definitely the hood, but I had no idea the crime ranked that high.
You're probably talking about Mcgregor park. I can't believe I used to hang out there sometimes between classes for a "smoke break". We would sit by the picnic tables under the trees so we could see if cops come by and we could get rid of the "evidence". It's funny you mentioned Cambridge Oaks, I used to live there too. Apt #603, baby! Yeah but it was a total schithole. I heard gunshots on several occasions and my apt in particular had a leaking problem which turned into a mold problem. When were you there? I was there around 02-03.
