Yes, as in of course we will still shot paint and 3s but we should employ a midrange system, if McHale can do so. No, 3 and layups are more efficient and we should stick by the system.
I can coach most playoff teams to stop it myself with no coaching experience, it's easy. 1. don't double Howard, stay on all shooters man to man, he's not consient and do things to get in head put a body on him make him work. Make him beat us foul him whatever. 2. Sag off jones if you need to, let him make 2 3s in a row before you hold him, hedge him if he tries to drive, he can beat you there Hess good finisher. 3. Don't swipe at the ball when harden drives, he's looking for a foul just take a charge or jump straight up. 4. They set weak screens, fight over casspi screens it shouldn't be that hard. 5. Trap Lin he's a good driver so give him space to drive when he drives clog the lane.
You don't have to get rid of it, you can use it as a small tool on the side but to follow it completely is stupid.
3's were never efficient to begin with regardless to what his analytics say. He's out of touch and is becoming a problem. Good Gm, bad philosopher.
We are shooting a bad 3pt%. Whenever we started moreyball we had better shooters like Lee and Martin. We need to reduce so many dang brick 3s and move in closer.
Ha... HAHAHA... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH... Hahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhaahaahhahah... Yeah, hahhahaaha, that's all it takes... hahahahahhahahaha
Everybody and their mother posts random thoughts in the Garm, why give a damn what I post? If you're not going to be productive in the discussion then don't post your even more worthless thoughts about a poster than the actual team I'm talking about.
Well, unless they misunderstood his question, it looks like 80% agree with him so far. I also agree with poster above who believes it should be used as a tool but not exclusively.
I think it's way too early to judge this system. It takes a year at least to get a system into place. Considering that you now have Dwight Howard in there and have to adjust everything to him, and that all your players are really green and are still learning how to play well at this level against the top defensives - and it really needs to be 2 years. I think you stick with moreyball until at least 2015.
Oh my god you've solved it!!!! You've cracked the code!!! I hope no coaches read Clutchfans to get this genius information!!! play07 is a better coach than the 28 of them that can't stop our offense
Moreyball != no long 2s. Morey has said if he had players like Aldridge and Nowitski , that he would encourage long 2s. Our stars are Howard and Harden and long 2s don't make sense with that comp.
Well, is Moreyball really what we're seeing as he envisioned it? There's a question. Did he really envision everyone on the team taking their turns going iso, or is that McHale's genius edition. I think we could stay with the concept but the implementation really needs to be refined. I can't believe that all these analytics have added up to the glorified pickup ball we're seeing much of the time out there.
One of Morey's favorite players of all time is Luis Scola. How many long jumpers did he take in a Rockets uniform???? The whole, no long 2's argument is dumb. If a player can make that shot at an efficient clip than great... its a good efficient shot. If he the percentages are the same for a certain player to take a long 2 vs a 3, than it only makes sense to take a step back and shoot a 3. That's not Moreyball dude, thats just common sense. The Rockets DO NOT have any good mid range jump shooters... therefore they don't shoot mid range jump shots.
So you are going to stay on all shooters man to man and also clog the lane? That should be easy, I'm not sure why all teams don't do that. You're going to let Harden drive and not swipe at the ball? Good luck trying to take a charge, he'll Euro-step around that all day. Is your strategy for guarding Lebron to just have your players stay in front of him? Just as easy to say and just as hard to accomplish.
