We just lost back to back games to an inferior team. I don't care what McHale **** kissers want to make it out to be.
the rockets are 8-4 with 0 day of rest http://stats.nba.com/teamStats.html?TeamID=1610612745&SeasonType=Regular Season i don't get where you get the loses from.
Why doesn't Morey understand that McHale can't coach this team? Why doesn't McHale understand that he can't coach this team?
Link? I'm curious to how it quantifies how we consistently play down to opponents. And we've had the harder schedule and more injuries and still back 5 games. And we usually win the games were are supposed. Fact of the matter the NBA is about match ups and it's clear certain teams just out match us. That and the stats. Currently 2nd best pt differential behind Indiana. That ain't all coaching, they still have a lot of talent. Suns got a good a team with a great coach. But they ain't going to the playoffs now. Don't be naive. They aren't going to get rid of McHale before this season regardless. By this "point" you mean in the season? Or as you wait until the end of the season? Hollins won't happen. He's an old school coach who doesn't much like the analytic movement. Like I implied, naming names is easy. Naming realistic coaching options in late Jan is difficult. Not really. They just don't fit as starters. Lin would be an awesome 6th man but he's just so inconsistent. That just doesn't make sense. They do have some offensive games were things don't go right, but overall the offense scores points.... It's pretty hard to argue that based off the numbers. We are top 5 at putting the ball in the basket and not top 10 preventing the ball from going in the basketball. Wouldn't need to constantly score if we had a better D. All the time.... to the players and to management. Coaches aren't accountable based off the whims of message board. LOLz. How the hell would have YOU have any notion about what McHale wonders..... Geeze get over yourself... arm chair basketball guru and arm chair psychologist.... As far as "play harder" I agree. Not a consistent effort for our young team. I disagree about Hollins getting the most out of the Grizzlies. With a very young team with high roster turnover the past 3 years, having a "simple system" played to the Rocket's strength. Really? I thought it was NBA consensus that the Rocket's have over achieved the last 2 seasons..... We weren't expected to win as much those 2 previous seasons.... does that mean McHale will get more credit for those wins..... Your "credit system" confuses me. Thats why I used the word "people" champ.... Based off the interwebz..... I still maintain people b**** either way. So McHale gets zero credit for wins? Or how much credit? 5%? 12%? What are we working with here? Really? I thought I was arguing this season of Rocket's basketball is more complicated than just handing out blame.... if it wasn't clear. Who expected them to look like a top tier team outside of CF? Maybe that is the issue.... homerism clouding peoples expectations and logic. Well if this season wasn't riddled with injuries I would agree. Still missing 14 minutes of elite rim protection and just got our best perimeter defender back.
When you beat the Spurs, you WORK to beat them, even on their off day and with their stars out it takes a lot of effort to beat the Spurs. With the Rockets its more like, it takes 100% effort and a full team to win a game against crap teams. That's the difference, adding a Tony Parker, Kahwi Leonard, Danny Green to the Rockets will not make them go from 5 to 1st, it's the useless coaching that's failing the Rockets and the team mentality on D. OKC's mentality is to play tough D and give the ball to KD. What's the Rockets? They have no clear cut picture of who and what they are? Who are the Rockets playing for? Who is the leader? Who can you trust on the team?
You got to wonder whether the injuries we had have anything to do with Mchale 'a management of player's time. He did run harden and parsons to the ground. Bev's injury is different and is NOT on the coach.
And BTW: no team is going to always healthy. And regardless of whether we are healthy, do you think Mchale will suddenly play a different offense and defense game when Garcia becomes healthy or Lin become healthy? It is not about blame or credit. Many people including me are questioning Mchale 's incompetency in drawing up plays, questioning the lack of help defense, questioning why the PnR does not happen frequently as a lot of people think it should, questioning why there are a lot of iso plays, questioning why we always have bad defensive rebounding when Howard goes for a block, etc. These have little to do with who is healthy!
People who blame on injuries have no idea that role players contribute to very few wins for the whole season. For example, Even if Bev misses 20 games for the whole season, his win contribution probably amounts to about 1 win. Parsons probably means 1.5 wins for 20 games. This team is built on two superstars. The majority of polls, the media and the fans all agreed before the season that they are the best at their respective positions. You can't find another team who has two of the top 10 players in the league. A combination of the best center along with a top shooting guard is supposed to be lethal but we are not. The strength of this team lies on its stats and they are not impressive. Despite adding the best center in this league, this team is barely better than last year, with the same bad habit of faltering against elite defensive teams. We all know what this team is capable of playing. Most of us had glimpsed of it in the pre-season and at the beginning of the season. It's utterly depressing how this team had regressed. We are on a two-month skid into the abyss of mediocrity with no end in sight!
Can you imagine how great our team could be with a defensive minded coach that actually ran plays for a post player? JVG we need you back!!!!
Posted in another thread. It's related so repost here. This team is having an identity crisis. It is like a bipolar with multiple personalities. When things got tough, our two so-called superstars just disappeared. Players didn't trust each other. The coach because panic himself and would try anything (except the right thing unfortunately) even if it doesn't make any sense (like last night the ultra-small lineup against Memphis's big lineup). I hate to beat the dead horses again. 1). McHale is a slightly above average coach. When things got tough, his response is often erratic. Often times, I feel like he is throwing the entire kitchen sink on the wall to see whatever sticks. He himself doesn't trust the "system" if there is a one. How do you expect players response? He does't know how to draw up an inbound play when the team needs to score. 2). McHale ignored a basic rule of all sports "it aren't broke, don't fix it". I thought we can build on last season's chemistry simply by replacing Asik or the power forward with DH. You know what. That's not enough. On the top of that, let's also replace the starting PG, which totally changed the dynamics of the team and created unnecessary additional uncertainty. If you don't like Lin as a starter, that's fine. But at least give it a try for a few games at the beginning of the season to see how the team would respond and how DH'd play with Lin. Same happened when PB recovered 4 games ago. A normal coach'd ease PB back to the starting lineup. No. Let's start PB right away as if PB is 2nd coming of Jesus, the Rockets' Saver. Right now, I don't care who starts at PG as long as JH plays his natural position in SG.
Did you enjoy watching the Grizzlies games???.... Is that the type of basketball you want to watch for 82+ games a year because thats what you are going to get with JVG. Maybe he'll change his style if he comes back into coaching, but all you have to go off of is the evidence of previous coaching experiences. If the Rockets go in a different direction next Summer I think there are quite a few coaching options to look at. Stan and Jeff being two of them... but I think there are other coaches out there that can bring a little bit of both sides of the ball to get the Rockets where they need to be which is running a system & playing defense like the Spurs or Heat.... The goal would probably NOT be to change EVERYTHING overnight and all the sudden becoming a smash mouth slow it down team which is exactly what JVG has been in the past with EVERY one of his teams. The goal would be to still maintain a fast paced offense, improved execution, and get better on the defensive end. You are probably looking at either someone that is an assistant somewhere that the Rockets have been scouting for years like a Brett Brown(who would be perfect IMO), or maybe George Karl (if he's healthy enough to come back for awhile), and maybe SVG if that's who Dwight's camp pushes for, and he interviews well. Some of the Rockets current assistants now deserve a chance to get looked at as well...namely Chris Finch and JB Bickerstaff. Kelvin I like, but I'm not sure what he can add to the offensive end.
Did they win the Grizzlies games when he game slowed down to a crawl, and they had to rely on banging the ball in the post, and playing physical defense? The day the Rockets actually acquire players capable of playing smash mouth basketball is the day they should actually consider playing smash mouth basketball.
This team is actually Designed to play all styles of basketball but you have guys like Asik and Greg Smith out plus Beverley just gets back all those are your smash mouth type players. Where we are mistaken is thinking Fransico Garcia could be a smash mouth defender over a 82 game season. Mchale should simply be fired.
We are the 4th youngest team.... managing minutes shouldn't be a priority but that is not to say it is of no concern. Frankly, our bench has been pretty bad this season which means starts get more minutes. Asik's injury not due to coach. Harden's ankle roll not on coach. Parson's back spasm not on coach..... I'd hope Garcia would hit more 3's which would open up our offensive. This is seriously overblown. The coaching staff prepare for each game and have plays for certain situations. These plays are practiced in scrimmage and in the film room. McHale is certainly not an "X's and O's" coach, but we have an ENTIRE coaching staff for that purpose..... Do people not watch games? Do people not see the coaching staff constantly conferring? Injuries, youth, and lack of playing experience. Again.... Bev and Asik sidelined for a significant time. B/C Howard has publicly stated he isn't a fan and they are trying to appease Howard as much as possible. We used to run a lot of PNR with Dragic and Lowry. Last year, ran less with Harden as we didn't have a great roll man. Ask Harden, that's been his style when plays break down and defenses disrupt the sets the Roxs constantly run. We just have more ball stoppers on the team this year. Lastly, it's just ignorant to assume this Roxs team is a finished product. Top 9 defensive team.... what the hell are you talking about? Well your defensive points are directly related to health. Asik is a great rebounder and team defender and Bev is a great rebounder and defender.... Despite people's irrational complaining about the lack of plays (we run sets folks!) and isos are offensive is a huge strength.
