Our 3 pts shooting has been way down this year. We need to get some deadly 3 pt specialists to complement Harden and Howard playing inside out when doubled. Of the FA class coming up, Jimmer Fredette fits the bill of a deadly pure 3pt shooter. Look at his 3% stat, 50% in Nov, 42% in Dec and 55 in Jan. He is like a smaller Redick, and can play pg or sg. Fredette can be had for next to nothing. The dumb Kings turn down the team option. So we should get him cheap in trade or sign him as free agent. We often trade with Kings, so why not trade for this guy? Brewer + Cannon for Fredette.
Please spoiler that huge image! btw, does anyone know if there is a chrome extension/script that will automatically resize images to fit your window? I've been searching, but haven't had much luck
If you could get Melo and a guarantee of a contract extension and also an NBA finals berth what would you give up on the Rockets? Would you be willing to give up CP25, Lin, a first round pick, and Asik? Just wondering? I love CP25 and I wouldn't give him up for anyone except maybe KD or Melo, to be honest. I don't know there is just something about Melo that I really like. I know he doesn't play much defense but the guy can just flat out ball. If we had him, Howard, Jones, Harden, and Beverley, I think that this team could go really far. I know it sounds like a NBA 2k14 trade but I really think that he wants to leave the Knicks after this year. They probably need to trade him while they still can by the trade deadline to get something in return for him.
Would require picks to be sent back NY. But i would only do it if Melo signed the extension or opt'd in for next year atleast. With Parson coming up, we would most def be in the tax tho.
You don't want to trade a 24 year old star that will continue to get better, for a 29 year old older star unless his name is Lebron.
i would rather give a round pick to get rid of Melo ! that player is a teamwork /chemistry cancer. yes he will put huge numbers in points , but it be on the expence of he rest of the team ! and on a side note: Billionzz will u take a 30+ player named Duncan ?
Thanks for this post. I strongly disagree with some of your player valuations--I think Spencer Hawes goes for something like four years, $36 mil and that Al-Farouq Aminu will get more than the minimum (Aminu gets at least $16 mil in guaranteed salary, and is a major bargain at anything less than $4 mil/year)--but I agree that we should look ahead to next year's offseason strategy. I expect Daryl Morey to be pretty happy with his core and look to flesh out his roster with rookies and undervalued veterans (veteran's minimum salaries, maybe slightly above the veteran's minimum). This allows the team to maintain cap flexibility in the event that a big name (e.g., Kevin Love) becomes available, or the team looks to extend Chandler Parsons, or both. I expect Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Donatas Motiejunas, and Houston's 2014 first round pick to be traded by the Feb 20 deadline (less than a month from now) for a big upgrade at PG (Rajon Rondo or Ty Lawson, I'm thinking) and Spencer Hawes. Hawes will be an unrestricted free agent, and Morey will not want to participate in the inevitable bidding war (again, I am projecting a four year, $36 mil contract for Hawes, although this may be a conservative estimate). This means the following players are on your 2014-15 roster: 1 James Harden 2 Dwight Howard 3 Rajon Rondo/Ty Lawson 4 Chandler Parsons 5 Terrence Jones 6 Patrick Beverley 7 Francisco Garcia 8 Isaiah Canaan 9 Robert Covington The Rockets will likely fill its two developmental league slots with its second round selection (this is the Knicks' pick, so it will likely be around #40 overall) and an undrafted rookie signee (i.e., this year's Greg Smith/Robert Covington). This leaves four open roster spots, all four of which will be filled by undervalued veterans, each signed to one- or two-year minimum salary (or not much more than the minimum salary) contracts (as we saw with Francisco Garcia, Omri Casspi, etc. this past offseason). You'll need a backup C, a PF/C, a SF/PF, and a SG/SF, IMO, although Morey likely signs the four best bargain bin guys he can and look to fill needs via trade prior to the Feb 2015 trade deadline. So! Here is a list of veteran free agents who appear to be undervalued, i.e., advanced stats likes them but conventional wisdom is pretty meh: Backup center candidates Kris Humphries DeJuan Blair Samuel Dalembert Boris Diaw Lavoy Allen Morey is likely going to have to offer something like one year, $3 mil, maybe two years, $6 mil (player option) in order to secure his bargain basement backup C. He may even sign two of these guys. Humphries and especially Allen seem to be the most undervalued players on this list. Backup "Stretch 4" candidates: Omri Casspi (will be unrestricted) Anthony Tolliver Patrick Patterson Marvin Williams Here is another guy who you may need to offer more than the minimum. One year, $2.0 mil should do it. You'd only want one of the guys from this list. All are solid backup stretch fours although keep in mind that Robert Covington may wind up with this rotation spot (filled by Casspi this season). Backup SG/SF: Jordan Hamilton CJ Miles James Anderson Anthony Morrow Alan Anderson Jodie Meeks John Salmons Richard Jefferson Cartier Martin This is a deep bench guy who won't play much, so you aren't going to want to pay this guy more than the one year, minimum salary contract. So we've filled at least three of the four open roster spots, maybe all four. This is a nice bench, and, as you can see, Morey has nice cap flexibility, everyone on the roster provides good value and can be easily moved in the event that a Kevin Love hits the market. Also consider a possibility that I have mentioned before: Morey decides that he isn't thrilled by the prospect of shelling out $50+ mil in guaranteed dollars to extend Parsons, and he trades Parsons for the best 2014 first round pick he can get, probably around #10-#12 overall. We saw Morey make this move when he wasn't eager to pay the money it was going to cost him to re-sign Kyle Lowry and Chase Budinger, so we should know this is a possibility. San Antonio made this same move when it traded George Hill for the pick used on the excellent Kwahi Leonard. I think Parsons is going to get four years, $48-$52 mil on the open market, and that seems like an overpay to me. Fun to watch Morey at work! Houston is fortunate to have him.
In a heart beat. But I am not sure that NY would do it even if we gave them 2 unprotected draft picks
H.... no to Marvin Williams. Don't discount the possibility of Morey re-signing Hawes if we trade for him. You're saying he'll get $9 mil per for 4 years guaranteed. If we trade for Hawes and he fits here (I'm convinced he would), then Morey could offer him a few extra dollars on a signing bonus and he'd be very tradeable with lowering salaries each year.
Morey might want to re-sign Hawes but four years, $36 mil is a lot of money, especially for a backup. But you're right, it could happen, although I doubt it. Marvin Williams has been pretty solid this year, actually. He's pretty comparable to Omri Casspi.
Finally Brooks in but a little too late, ill watch till the end though even though this game is a mcfail
