Final thing - definitely go for two as Rox are ranked somewhere like 24th in 3s this year.

Attack the rim. Get a layup or get to the line. Just need one to tie, two to win.

My line up would be Lin, harden, parsons, jones, and Howard.

Parsons will inbound it. They kinda setup in the middle. Harden frees himself up to receive the pass. Jones and Howard set up a screen at both elbows. Harden goes around those picks and drives to the rim. Hopefully those picks free up the paint of the Grizz big men. If they collapse down you'll find Lin with his toes on the line for a long distance game winning two, or you'll find parsons in the other corner for his 11th 3.

Maybe Mchale should tweet a HOF coach and ask him to make a play for him next time.

One play that Steve Francis used to run with Yao at the end of games to get an open look but with Chandler and D12 instead.

Chandler passes the ball into D12 who is standing at the wing of the arc close to CP25. CP25 then races past D12 taking the ball and then using him as a screen, take one or two dribbles to get open shot from behind the 3 point line. It's about a 2.5 second play at most and usually less than that.

With the way Parsons was shooting last night I would have ran him off curl screen top of right elbow with DH12 setting the screen.

Picks and rolls the way to go. Spread the floor and make the best decision based on how the defense plays it.

For last night's game, in particular, top of the key p&r with dwight/harden and kicking it out to a Parsons who gets a back screen(from bev or lin) for the game-winning 3 in the corner.

The chances of getting a call at the end of the game are slim. That's just asking for a turnover.

Lin was in on the final play.

Bev's role is to space the floor, just as Lin was on the opposite end of the floor. Play wasn't designed to go to him unless he was wide open.

Where McHale made a mistake, in my opinion, was having Parsons lead the play because he was hot. He did the same on the play before when Parsons threw up a wild runner while fading off the baseline and Dwight couldn't tip it.

In my opinion, Harden is tailor-made to run that play. Parsons got stuck and the Rockets never got the ball inside the three-point line. Very disappointing.

^ Exactly, he didn't tailor the play to the player.
Chandler doesn't get separation unless he's got a good screen, and people are playing too good defense in that situation to be able to pump fake to get open.

Give that play to Harden, or as rocketsmetalspd said, give Chandler a good screen in a more suitable area of the court.

From the above two choices, I'd say just give it to Harden even if he's 2-11 or whatever.

Seems that the thing to do is to set some screens to free a guy (likely the hot shooter Parsons, but could be anyone) for a catch and shoot J or a chance to attack the close-out.

Lin/Harden pick and roll, get the switch (like they always do) and then have Harden go at a PG one on one.

The problem is there is literally no movement off the ball. Theres no trying to free up Parsons/Lin/Anybody, and as such you've got a situation where in actuality its Harden against 5 players. You're basically gambling on him hitting that stepback fadeaway everytime.

I just cannot for the life of me process McHale's thought process which led him to think "Parsons is on fire, lets run a high PnR with him two times in a row", both plays failed, and it wasn't how Parsons was scoring at all. If you have someone on fire coming off screens and being the recipient of the creator (Harden had 13 assists), what the hell would make you think he could suddenly turn into a playmaker? His handle isn't tight enough, they blitzed him, and then you have Beverley being forced the ball with 2 seconds left and completely covered.

    BALLGAME.

I think he called a play that didn't involve harden and Dwight.

I should've been more clear, Lin in for Bev & an extra shooter in for final play. I love Bev, but he was way off target last night.

1st option is to use Harden & Howard PnR in the top of the key, rest of the guys spread out; if the defense over play that, then let Harden cut through to the corner to free Lin up to do a PnR with Howard.

People often underestimate the difficulty of execution of PnR, it requires great ball control, and ability to pass to the right spots under pressure. The only Rockets are capable of doing it is Harden, and Lin is a distant 2nd. No one else has the skill to pull it off.

Yeah... That play has nothing to do with Bev or Lin... It should be Harden PnR (not Harden ISO).

Always put the ball in the balls of your star players in that situation.

Two star players in this team: Harden and Howard.

No one in his right state of mind would give the ball to Howard. He would be immediately fouled, missed the FTs and lost the game.

Therefore, give the ball to Harden and let him create. No other option.
