I don't mind the trade until I realise their is a salary cap and Monroe wants a max to close to max deal. So it would be 0 financial flexibility outside of the exceptions to sign players.
You can't trade first round picks in consecutive seasons. Unless, of course, there's a loophole that I'm missing.
The problem with Lin is he's reportedly seen as an overpaid backup PG by executives from the other teams. He has negative trade value mostly because of the $$$ in his last year in a soft market for PGs. To be able to trade him it'll likely be for an unwanted 3 year contract in return. The Rockets can forget about picks coming their way unless they package TJones or D-Mo.
It's a great trade for the Knicks and a terrible one for Detroit. Detroit get Lin, which is nice, but they downgrade from Stuckey to JR Smith, from Monroe to Tyson Chandler (he hasn't looked like a typical mobile prime Chandler for over a year), trade their pick and get a much worse Houston pick in return, and most importantly lose like 23 mil in cap space. Houston side: they can't trade both 2015 and 2016 picks, so that would have to be changed. Overall, I don't know if I'd do it for Houston or not. They lose a player who's not playing, a nice 6th man and two late picks. They gain two young players. Shumpert seems like a good fit and he has upside. Monroe doesn't seem like a good fit but at the very least he's a much better 6th man than Lin. Long term, sure, re-signing Monroe would cost cap space. On the other hand, he's young, talented and probably an attractive trade piece to rebuilding teams in trades and sign and trades, so the Rockets fans could keep dreaming about Loves and Rondos.
How's this Love to Houston Rondo+ tjones+ Green + Houston 1st rounder to wolves Asik+ lin + Rubio to Boston Don't know how that works money wise, but I think that's a pretty fair trade all around. Maybe Boston gives up one more peice to the wolves.
Just curious...do you have insider info on that GM comment or are you just making an assumption based on something you read.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=knebf7z I'm not really sure how people value Rubio, since he isn't a great defender or shooter. Very good passer though. Rockets IN: Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, & Corey Brewer. Timberwolves IN: Evan Turner, Terrence Jones, Jeremy Lin, 2014 1st round pick via Rockets, 2016 1st round pick via Rockets. 76ers IN: Omer Asik & Donatas Motiejunas. I'm sure the Timberwolves would want more, but this is a start.

Love to HOU Asik and Canaan to ATL T. Jones, Schroder, Brand, Antic, HOU's 1st rounder, and ATL's 1st rounder to MIN HOU gets Love ATL gets Asik without giving up a starter MIN gets T. Jones and Schroder plus 2 1st rounders Who says no?
That's actually a good deal. I'd maybe even throw in NY's 2nd rounder which will be decently valuable.
