Coming from the guy who compared Matthew Stafford to Farve...Lol... So you're holding on to a game from over a year ago and ignoring the Houston game this past season... Ok.. Luck, Elway, and Manning looked the part. You just brought up how Teddy was built like Warner (which I'm not too sure of that), a guy who went undrafted.
The thing is that there is no evidence in terms of fumbling or accuracy to suggest Bridgewater has problems related to small hands. His intelligence and accuracy are his noted strengths. Does the ball get bigger from college to the NFL? Will he suddenly be unable to put the ball right in the bread basket of the receiver? All we have are photos in which his hands look small. It is a necessary part of the process that draft candidates go under the microscope, but all this posturing over hand size and even height is useless unit the combine. Just let it go. If/when he checks in at 6'0" with 8" hands, have a field day. Bridgewater is a nerd QB for whom most draft watchers are waiting to see get physically measured at the combine. Until we have actual evidence to go on, we might as well let the body measurements thing go. No one is ignoring potential red flags. There is no need to make this discussion follow the Lin discussion model in the GARM. I follow players before teams. And I will be following a Bridgewater, Manziel, Clowney, and Barr closely as those guys look to have the potential to be all world football players. I just hope that my favorite team to follow doesn't screw up their chance at #1. Really, though I would like to see the Texans and BOB develop Bridgewater, I don't think the Texans can go wrong with either Bridgewater, Manziel, or Clowney. I just keep in mind that this is a QB league and the rules keep skewing further in that direction.
I agree that accuracy can translate well, but you won't find out anything about a players accuracy by watching a highlight reel. It's not about making one throw, or even making 10 throws, it's about how you throw every down. You aren't going to see the plays where he has a wide open receiver for a TD and just misses him entirely (which I saw several times watching him) in a highlight reel, you won't see the plays where he just makes a poor throw and the ball goes in the dirt in a highlight reel, you won't see where he makes a poor throw that ended up caught by his guy but would have been a pick in the NFL in a highlight reel.....That's my whole point. In watching Bridgewater in depth, I've seen some great stuff, I've seen some not so great stuff and that's why I don't see him as a potential top QB in the NFL ever.
The way I see it, this conversation will ultimately and inevitably end up just like the Lin conversations in the GARM because the extremist Bridgewater fans are very similar to extremist Lin fans. The over the top Bridgewater fans might be a new thing to these boards, but I've been dealing with them in other boards for months now. No one has called me a "Bridgewater hater" for suggesting that he won't be better than Aaron Rodgers yet, so that means it's a hell of a lot better here than it is on some of the other boards, but I think it's coming.
Yeah, and it was also more than just his body size and his hand size that led to him being undrafted. The comparison between Warner and Bridgewater are only physical.
Trust me, if you guys end up right, you won't be the only one and I'll happily eat it if I end up wrong and Bridgewater is the next great thing....especially if he's on the Texans.
Regarding small hands and fumbles, it could be an issue however watch any of his videos. He always keeps 2 hands on the ball in the pocket even when shuffling around until he starts his throwing motion. Also dude rarely hangs on to the ball because he gets through his reads so quickly.
I don't see O'Brien going for Teddy or Johnny. I think him liking big strong armed QBs is legit. And those physical traits could be important to him. I don't see him starting off his professional head coaching career with a QB he's not comfortable with.
Well if a big, physical QB is what he's looking for then there's no way they pick a QB with the first overall pick. There isn't any QB that meets those requirements that are worth a top 5 pick so it would either be a QB taken in a later round or a trade down. I don't know what O'Brien will do or how much he cares about QB size.
Your aggressiveness and repetitiveness and absolutism is dictating the nature of your responses. Until Bridgewater fans bring up Bridgewater in every freaking discussion, no matter how unrelated to their hero the discussion is, nothing compares to Lin fandom -- which exists for fair and understandable social reasons. At this point in the draft process, I expect each thread on each player to be a singing of each guy's praises with a smattering of "red flags". With of course a few "that guys" trying to burst a bubble. There is a lot of reason to be over-excited about the top two QB prospects and the freak of nature DE. No need to hate. No need to try to pop a bubble or plant a stake in the sand for later "I told you so"s. Ultimately, these guys futures will be decided by injury, work ethic, and coach/system fit. Not height. Not hand size. Not 40 times. I think it is a compliment that the best folks come up with is that one guy has small hands and another guy, who -- in my limited understanding -- spent much of the college season playing through injury when he should have sat out, takes plays off.
Well it's irrelevant really. Firstly because the small hands issue isn't really about fumbles and secondly because what he gets away with against AAC defenses is not really relevant to what would happen at the NFL level. It's good that he's smart enough to keep both hands on the ball though.
Initially, there were reports that O'Brien would want a big QB. But I think that as stuff being fosters by McClain. In YouTube video posted earlier, O'Brien talks about football IQ and accuracy being the most important things, over and beyond athleticism. Descriptions of his offensive system seem to support that contention. But if he thinks he sees a 6'4" 230+ guy with the brains it run his system who everyone else is overlooking and will be available in later rounds, then he might as well go for it. Jack Harbaugh long insisted his son had Kaepernick on his radar before the draft and liked the guy more than Newton and always planned to take Kaepernick in the 2nd.
Again, it's a fairly new thing here, if/when it gets as bad as it is other places you'll understand. As to the rest, I accept that as your opinion but I'm not sure how much that changes things. You not thinking that a players height/weight, hand size, and combine scores matter won't change the fact that they absolutely DO matter. I like how, despite your admittedly limited knowledge, you chose to repeat the tired line about a certain player "taking plays off" while at the same time not understanding what it would mean if it is discovered that Bridgewater actually does have small hands at the combine. The taking plays off BS is easily refutable by watching actual, full game tape, the small hands issue could drop Bridgewater significantly in the draft if it ends up being true.
What is he getting away with? Passing accurately? I could see your point if his passes were off the mark and he relied on his receivers to make a play on the ball. I could see your point if you said he doesn't have enough zip on the ball. But dude puts the ball in the right spots. He leads his receivers. He doesn't leave them hanging out to dry when they go over the middle. That high level accuracy never changed in his big games, either. I get the sense this may be more about getting the last word than about raising a point and moving on. Might a thinner and longer ball necessitate him changing his grip? Could smallish hands be an issue in that case?
he will take the smartest QB that can read a defense, and who breathes football and understands him.. He isnt worry about the size.. He has said hinself, that size isnt everything..
