I'm sure black ice is a big concern like it was a few years ago when this happened.

Depends how bad it is. The best way is to get an ice scraper.

but you probably won't have an easy time finding one in Houston. If it's just frost or only a thin layer of ice you can use a credit card. If it is thicker you can use a paint scraper or metal spatula but be careful you don't scratch the glass.

If it is really bad you can use hot water especially if your car doors are frozen. Just make sure you wipe off the water before it refreezes.

Some other helpful tips from a Houstonian now living in the arctic are: When you turn on your defroster in the car make sure the air is bringing in fresh air and not just recirculating the air in the car. When driving on ice downshifting is your friend. Also if you skid don't slam on the breaks take your foot off the gas and go with it. Turn with the skid not into it. If the ice is pretty bad keep some kitty litter in the car with you since if you are stuck that can help you get traction. For yourself dress in layers and if you have work boots wear those. Nothing is more uncomfortable than soggy cold sneakers. Also wear hats. You lose a lot of heat through the top of your head plus ice and snow on top of a bare head isn't very comfortable.

Ice and frost can damage wipers. If you are going to use wipers make sure the car has been running and the defroster is going full blast for awhile to start breaking up the ice. Don't just use the wipers but use some washer fluid too as that will help to break the ice.

Also don't just use water in your washer fluid as that will freeze and block your lines. This stuff is great,

If you can find it in Texas.

Be prepared to use a lot of washer fluid as driving in snow and ice you will get a lot of kick up from the road and you want to keep your windows clean or it will freeze. If you do only have water in your washer fluid make sure to let your car warm up and your defrosters running for a while so ice can melt and any washer fluid hitting the windshield won't freeze.

Yeah, except on the overpass at downtown. I saw four idiots slipping and sliding and hitting the gas just spinning around. Thankfully there were cops/firemen/wrecker drivers posted telling them to shut it down. I just put my car in winter mode and didn't spin once. I also counted 7 wrecks and of course I just got a call from the boss saying to stay at home WHEN I'M ALREADY AT WORK!

Don't hate on my desktop files! It's my new work PC I received fro IT yesterday. I'll get them all messed up to look better in 'bout a week or something.

Only if you're using kosher or sea salt. Iodine will dissolve the rubber.
