Rondo for Lin/Asik doesn't make us better...at least not in the short run. Morey needs to use the MLE and BAE in the offseason for some solid bench players. Someone like JJ Redick and Tony Allen.

If we get both Rondo and Green, I would be ok with trading Asik-Lin-1st round pick. Morey wins again LOL. I don't think the C's would ever do this trade.

We will most definitely have to give up draft picks

IF true, my guess is a 3 way trade.

    Asik and Lin to Boston
    Rondo to 3rd team
    Other player, picks to Houston.

This 3rd star needs to "fit". Rondo doesn't, at least not on offense.

If Morey is trying to hoard assets for Love, Rondo would not be on his radar, especially if he has to give up valuable picks. We shall see.

Wow, if this comes true, then it gives Lin fans what they've always wanted. A team where Lin can start and in the area where he went to university.

The thing about "pairing Asik and Lin" is the $15M owed to each of them. If we are hearing teams b****ing about Asik's balloon payment, teams will likely have more issue paying $30M combined to these two guys.

Also, I'd make sure Rondo is 100% first before trading significant assets for him. He is just catching up but the first couple of games are ugly.

    I don't see a 2 team trade but if so I'm guessing

    rockets out
dmo, Lin, asik, 1st rd Pick

    celtics out
    bass, rondo

then we sign Bynum with mid level

Who would be the other Boston player to make salaries match?

Asik and Lin = 16.667 million (for cap purposes)

    Rondo makes about...what? 12 million

Boston'd have to throw in a Faverani or some such player.

I suppose Ainge could pull a Morey...trade one of these balloon-payment guys, throw in up to 3 million, plus some picks....or something like that, in a trade for an All Star-ish player from a team looking to rebuild.

    I love worthless speculation!

    A couple thoughts:

    1. One issue here is that Boston is still pretty close to the luxury tax line. They will need to add a decent amount of salary to Rondos to make the trade work without incurring the tax. Or else there could be a third team.

But this is a mathematical issue that can be figures out if the teams agree to the principal parts of the trade.

    2. More important, I don't see Boston wanting to do this.

First, I feel that Rondo in a position like the 2007 version of Paul Pierce and they should try to use their young guys and assets to trade for the new "Garnett and Allen" and return to contention quickly rather than blowing it up.

Second, if they do trade Rondo, not sure why they wouldn't look for high draft picks (which Houston does not have) and higher upside possible future stars (TJones?) still on rookie deals instead of a couple of pretty good not-quite-star players and draft picks.

If I were Boston, my asking price for Rondo would be maybe Jones, Asik, Lin, picks for Rondo and Bass.

    How's this

    Love to Houston

    Rondo+ tjones+ Green + Houston 1st rounder to wolves

Asik+ lin + Rubio to Boston

Don't know how that works money wise, but I think that's a pretty fair trade all around. Maybe Boston gives up one more peice to the wolves.

Seen him at the game yday sitting on the bench towards the end cheering us on standing up and coming in the circle during time outs. Looks almost ready to go by the end of the month.

I'd assume they take out Bass and put in Wallace somehow. If they're blowing it up, Wallace's contract is the only sore issue on their roster. The Rockets have no sure-fire lottery picks, so taking on Wallaces' worthless corpse is probably the only thing worth Ainge's time. This would also solve the luxury tax issue for the Celtics. Rockets throw a lottery protect 1st (or two).

Steep price from the Rockets standpoint, but you have to give up quantity when you lack quality in terms of picks like they had for the Harden trade.
