I just don't want to be a 4/5 seed if OKC gets the 1st seed. I would want to have the 2, 3 or even the 6th to avoid them in the playoffs until the WCF.

I know the Spurs are the Spurs but this year the Spurs aren't quite to the typical Spurs standards. They are (1-9) against the top team of the NBA. A couple of loses to Houston, Portland and to OKC, Indiana and Warriors. They do take care of teams they should beat consistently, unlike us unfortunately. And Pop is pop while Duncan is Duncan. But I won't be surprised if Pop starts resting his player even more as we near the playoffs (because for him and that team, they just want to get to the playoffs healthy) and if the Rockets really want to pass to the Spurs then it's possible.

It's a well coached team. I doubt it.

I don't think we should worry about catching anyone rather just playing great basketball and letting whatever happens happen. Key for this team now is staying healthy.

I agree to an extent, but this team as currently constructed should want no part of OKC in the playoffs. Shoot for the 3rd seed.

I am thinking Spurs will continue win 68% of their remaining games.

I'm almost 90% sure we'll overtake the blazers and clipps though.

We wont play them in the 1st round. After that nothing we can do. Spurs, or Thunder - it's going to be brutal. Don't think just because we beat the Spurs in the regular season means it will be the same outcome in the post-season.

    Yeah, they are playing well.

Overtaking the clips means nothing unless we overtake the Blazers as well. That won't be easy.

They are 31-11 with 40 games to go.
We're 29-15 38 games to go, 4 back in the loss column.

So assuming we win our last game with them to take the season series, and we go 25-13 to close out the season to finish with 54 games, all they have to do is 24-16. If we don't win that game, all they really need is 23-17. That's very doable for them.

So really for us to over take anyone play good basketball, we have to be ridiculously good. Think finishing with 58 or more wins. You know the top two seeds will be in the 60's, and it's possible that the 3rd seed will hit 60 wins as well. So it won't be easy for us at all.

That being said, the team is showing signs of consistency the last few weeks.

we're only 4 games behind the team with the most wins in the league. thats a very small margin for the nba

I said we would overtake both teams. I'm not worried about Portland, I've been watching their last couple of games and they have been playing a lot worse and are due to collapse (currently being pummeled by Denver and will hopefully have 12 losses), they are also going from having the EASIEST schedule the first half to the NBA's HARDEST schedule the 2nd half of the season. Honestly, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we will overtake Portland in the next 8 games as they will drop faster than a rock.

I wish I could go out on that limb with you but... The next 8 games for Portland feature only 4 teams with records over .500, and I'm being generous as one of those teams is Toronto at 21-20. In contrast, we get to play 5 teams with winning records including Memphis 2x, Spurs, Mavericks and Suns. 2 of those teams we play well, the other 2, not so much recently - but I think we're gonna get payback on the Suns.

This. Spurs rarely collapse like the Rockets have in some games against teams. Top 3 would definitely be something to aim for.

Overtaking the third seed (Portland) once or twice during 82 games is not the answer.
It will be a catfight/dogfight until the very end to stay ahead.
