A "massive" upgrade? Not really. Maybe that catapults you to a 45 win team, maybe not. Now, RONDO and Wallace, that would be a different story... but the Knicks have nothing to trade, no draft picks, really, no expiring contracts. Iman Shumpert is intriguing but what else is there, besides Carmelo and Tyson Chandler, both of whom NY intends to keep around?

The number of teams willing to both take on Wallace's contract AND cough up draft picks is probably zero. Which means Danny Ainge either trades Rondo by himself for picks + expirings or he keeps Rondo. I can see Ainge moving Jeff Green and Wallace (whose contracts come off the books at the end of the 2015-16 season) for a massive contract that comes off the books after the 2014-15 season (i.e., next season). Amare Stoudemire comes to mind. The Knicks might just do that. Man, the Knicks sure are stupid.

Meh. It sounds like their pitch to Carmelo is "we'll get some free agents". A move like this negates that pitch.

By the way, I wonder if Dolan wants to trade for Lin in principle. If he is, then i would think that something like Bargnani + pick or Felton + fillers + pick is a much more likely offer.

Besides, your trade idea is terrible for the Celtics. They give up Rondo. They save 6-7 mil in 2015-16 and they get a mediocre prospect. That's terrible return.

Schroeder is a high upside project.

It frees their 2015 cap to go after multiple max contract free agents or even to absorb that kind of salary through trade.

To get Afflalo you'd have to give up Jones.

    Reasonable trade:

Lin and Jones for Afflalo and Big Baby

Davis becomes your starting PF and Afflalo your 6th man punch off the bench
Magic want to trade high on Afflalo but they do want to trade him and rumors are they are wanting to dump Big Baby.

Depends on if they want Lin or Asik which I kind of doubt with Nelson and Vucevic.

If you scroll back a page or two, you'll find a post where I suggest that Bismack Biyombo is your classic buy low perceived bust that Morey probably is looking at. Also, Charlotte has an impatient, meddling owner who is begging to be exploited.

Here's another way to exploit Charlotte:

    Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, and filler (Lavoy Allen's expiring contract) to Charlotte;

    Bismack Biyombo, Donatas Motiejunas, and filler (Keith Bogans' expiring contract) to Philly;

    Kemba Walker, two first round picks (one from Charlotte, one from Houston), a second round pick (from Philly), and Ben Gordon's big expiring contract to Boston;

Ramon Rondo and Spencer Hawes to Houston.

Charlotte thinks it's getting a big upgrade at PG by replacing Walker with Lin (they're wrong), and that Asik and Al Jefferson can play well together (wrong again), but hey, they're Charlotte, what do you expect?

Philly gets a couple of intriguing young bigs for a veteran unrestricted free agent-to-be who they weren't going to even attempt to re-sign.

Boston gets a good (not great) guard (Walker) and a bunch of draft picks.

And Houston significantly upgrades at PG, significantly improves their perimeter defense, finds its much-needed leader with championship experience and a very strong desire to win, plus adds a nice big who can (unlike Asik) play alongside either Dwight Howard or Terrence Jones. Plus, Houston doesn't have to pay either Lin or Asik an arm and a leg next season.

Houston also opens up a roster spot which can be used to bring back Marcus Camby.

    The starting lineup

    PG Ramon Rondo (36 minutes/game)
    SG James Harden (36 min/g)
    SF Chandler Parsons (36 min/g)
    PF Terrence Jones (36 min/g)
    C Dwight Howard (36 min/g)

    The rest of the rotation

    Spencer Hawes (24 min/g)
    Patrick Beverley (24 min/g)
    Omri Casspi (12 min/g)

    The end of the bench

    Aaron Brooks
    Ronnie Brewer
    Francisco Garcia
    Greg Smith
    Marcus Camby

    Stashed in the developmental league

    Isaiah Canaan
    Robert Covington

Charlotte aint that dumb loool. They wont trade Kemba he is there franchise PG and he actually likes it in Charlotte, and a Asik Al combo would go well for them since Al is more of a PF game then a traditional center.

Charlotte would trade MKG tho if they were able to get something worth while for them.

If we do that Parsons have to go the Bucks or T Jones that kid is expensive. But if we do we are throwing the towel for at least two years

the trade I would discuss but I dont think would happen because of tax implications:

    Asik to the Heat

    for Battier and Haslem

Asik would give them that inside defensive presence and even though small ball has work they need to get much bigger on the inside with Indiana out there. Asik gives them that -

Beasley has been a surprising addition to them and I think the core of Beasley, Anderson and Lewis could help keep that bench going

For the Rockets - it gives them some major veteran leadership in Battier who is well respected in this organization -- someone the young guys can learn from in terms of game preperation - and you have a better guy (though older) coming off the bench to help guard a wing player and shoot the 3 ball.

Haslem brings that semi stretch four type get off the bench and also would bring some additional defense to that second unit.

This also would allow DMo to be the primary backup C -- if he wants minutes I think right now rather than a stretch 4 - Dmo has the best inside post game on the Rockets and it should be utilized and thats probably the best way to do it.

    After this trade the bench:

    Lin/Brooks
    Battier/Garcia/Brewer
    Battier/Garcia/Casspi
    Haslem/Casspi/Dmo
    Dmo/Smith

I would say Battier or Garcia can be interchanged between the 2/3 spots since they could play both and Casspi between the 3 and 4 spots.

This would add much more stability to the bench and some better defense and toughness.

For the Heat - it would probably give them another ring for sure this year (and again the tax will be the big thing for them in this) - gives Asik a chance to START for a championship team as well.

If the Heat win again thats not a huge deal for me as I believe the core of this Rockets team is still way too inexperienced with each other to really make some noise this year -- I think next year onwards is really when we could say the Rockets are contenders big time

However, Ramon Sessions could be worth having a look at.

Jefferson is a center. He's a center with limited defensive value but he's way too slow to play at PF.

    I don't like Asik / Jefferson combo.

What they should really do is nothing. I think they would drop into the mid lottery if they stay pat, no.8 pick or so. Which isn't as nice as high lottery but they should still get a very good prospect there.
Or, trade Henderson without getting a good player back, in which case they might have a chance to land a top 6 pick.

But if they want to make the playoffs this year, they would benefit much more from a solid scoring wing or a two way PF. Afflalo, Jeff Green, Eric Gordon, Thad Young.

Massive upgrade? I don't see it. Wallace looks horribly washed up and unmotivated these days.

Your trade ideas are always creative, though. I just have a hard time seeing the Knicks agree to this deal from their perspective; and overall, seeing the other three teams involved in a deal that so overwhelmingly favors us. We get the two best players in the trade by a landslide. Trades don't usually go down like that.

All we need now is a Photoshop of Rondo in a Rockets jersey
