I always read this page and love the input from the posters. I've only seen Bridgewater a few games and i've seen Manziel a lot. I really liked Manziel but after reading how Bridgewater did bad against U of H I pulled the game up on Youtube and was very impressed. He didn't have a great game but completed 65% of his passes. From what i saw he threw 2 really horrible passes. 1 was almost picked off. He also had 5-6 dropped passes. He also had 2-3 really beautiful passes. The biggest thing i saw was how bad his line was. He had very little time to make plays. U of H was getting after him by rushing only 4. I was impressed with how he handled the pressure. I believe seeing a guy play in a game like that is more telling than him playing in a game like the Miami game.
I'd be very surprised, because QBs with 10" hands don't wear gloves on their throwing hand. Could Bridgewater be an exception? Sure. Would it be surprising to find out that he wears a glove despite having 10" hands? Of course. I'd love to know why he felt the need to wear them despite having sufficiently large hands, because it just wouldn't be normal. Not anymore. We evaluate prospects because we want to get an idea of what they will bring to the table. The players you named have already proven themselves in the NFL. People did care before there was a professional track record & film to study, which is why we know Brees & Wilson have 10 1/4" hands. HUGE for men of their size, which is part of the reason why they throw such a great deep ball. No one thing tells the story about a QB, but no one thing should just be ignored because you don't feel like it matters. The parts that make up the whole ALL matter in some capacity. Hand size for QBs DOES matter.
He wears gloves out of comfort, its something he has done since he has started playing ball Big hands let you spin it in the elements and reduce fumbling issues I personally think that it helps velocity period
lol ben roethlisberger wears a glove.... last i checked he has pretty big hands. kurt warner.. tom brady.... phillip rivers... peyton manning.... all have worn gloves on their throwing hands one time or another. keep up the false information!! btw, awesome mettenberger thread!! it was a REAL HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
his coach is on record saying he has "huge hands"... http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/02/teddy-bridgewater-2014-nfl-draft/ But, you are too busy blathering about the UH game to know these things. Ignorance is bliss for people like you.
I'm not a football fanatic, and I would trust my eyes last of all when it comes to evaluating talent. But I do read these boards often, and I wonder why, before we were terrible, everyone I had ever heard from was proclaiming Bridgewater to be a transcendent QB. I mean, he could do no wrong. People in the national media were effusive in praise, and posters on this msg board were having wet dreams over any scenarios whereby we would be so lucky to have the number one pick. Whelp. We got that pick now, half the battle won, right? I just don't get it, though, why has the natl conversation turned so sour for the likes of Bridgewater? It's no like he played worse, far from it. I watched his last two games and was very impressed. But no, now the only thing I hear nationally, aside from that one Peter King article, is about what he cannot do. All the positive attributes that he does not have, the size he lacks (never mind Manziel's height), the competition he did not play against (never mind the conference Bortles played in). I can only conclude two things. One, that this is part of the draft process, that everyone, from clowney to Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning has some sort of criticism leveled against them just before the draft, to maintain the drama, bring in no dark horse, make it a nailbiter. Two, that other people, people that have no vested interest in our team really REALLY do not want us to draft this kid. I like that barometer. Who do your opponents most fear you to pick? Because that's the guy you should choose. Everyone and their mother wants us to take Manziel. Bad sign.
Why do you insist on making yourself look like a clown? Unless temperature is a concern; no, they don't wear gloves. Wearing a glove because your it's freezing and your hand is getting numb is very different than wearing one at all times. How old are you? It's seems unlikely that an adult would be so clueless, yet so sure they know what they're talking about.
do you know how to read? i specifically said "at one time or another". lol, you make me laugh. mettenberger. HAHAHAHAHA. what little credibility you had was lost with that horrible, embarrassing, asinine, disgusting thread you started. you should be ashamed of yourself.
All of this occurring this early in the draft process Vikings/Browns/Raiders and other teams on the fringes are engaging in a active deception plan. Peyton Manning went through the same type of process, Heck Leaf had to sabotage his own chances at the number 1 (http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/01/how-ryan-leaf-convinced-the-colts-to-draft-peyton-manning/) Very telling, great thing though. We have game film and interviews I remember back in 1998, everyone was saying Leaf would be better and that Peyton hit his ceiling at Tennessee, Leaf had more potential, the more physically gifted prospect. Manning was gonna be "average at best." Revisionist history will attempt to say differently but numerous scouting reports back what I am saying People need to become students of the game instead of fans and then they would realize who we need to pick
Brett is just a blogger. He's a smart blogger that works for NFL Network and his film breakdowns are always great to read, but he's still just a blogger. Sometimes he's absolutely right, sometimes he's off base. IMO the Bridgewater take is off base. I think he's buying into a little bit too much of the hype that he's surrounded by and it's affecting his opinion. Also, Brett is MUCH better at breaking down NFL film and talking about guys in the league than he is when it comes to the draft. When he says something that he sees in his NFL film study, it's gospel but when it comes to the draft, it's all projection because none of the prospects play anywhere near the level they'll face in the NFL. That can sometimes hurt pure film study guys. I still respect his opinion more than damn near anyone else out there, but that doesn't mean I always agree. Well, what makes JJ Watt the best defensive player in the NFL? Clowney statistically had a down year, but he was still one of, if not the most disruptive players in the game. Every team schemed to run away from him and they had some success doing so this season but that doesn't take away from how much attention he drew. Put him on a D line with Watt and they'll absolutely terrorize the NFL because you can't double them both.
Are you kidding me? If Mario was in this draft he'd be first overall no question about it. Do you realize that you are talking about the guy who became the highest paid defensive player in history?
Kollman's analysis is off base because you want to believe its off base. He is making this assessment in Texan country were all people want to hear is Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles is the flavor of the month. What's wrong with his analysis? His X's and O's are on point. I understand its not what you want to hear, but the man is calling a spade a spade. Bridgewater is that type of qb. Nothing wrong of factually incorrect with what he says, Bridgewater's coaches say the same thing. Compounded by the fact he runs the most complicated offense in college football yet only has 4 ints to 31 tds... Competition you say??? How about the kids he plays with?? Majority of them are 3 star and less talent who will never play a down of professional ball again. Clowney? I want no part of him. He had the choice to take a year off, instead he decides to play yet he can't fully dedicate himself to the team. What happens when things don't go his way in the pros???
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH wooo, sorry... oh wait, there's more HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH
I'm sorry Bridgewater Haters.... Bobbythegreat is KILLING your look!!!! you might want to ask him to stop posting. lololololol
I just explained how he's a BattleRedBlog blogger who is constantly surrounded by the opinions of the cult of Bridgewater. I'm suggesting that it has influenced his opinion. I haven't been there in a while, but a month or so back, if you suggested that Bridgewater wouldn't be as good as Aaron Rodgers, it was seen as trolling. In fact, head over there, make an account and suggest the Texans draft Johnny Manziel or Blake Brotles and see what happens. There may be one or two people supporting Clowney over there but it's pretty much all Bridgewater all the time. Furthermore, this is REALLY early in the draft process, all sorts of just flat out wrong opinions get tossed around, some even get seemingly well defended. Anyone remember Jon Major?
No guarantees about any prospect of course. But you have watched all of Bridgewater's games and then watch Brady/Manning/Rodgers over the years consistently you can see what people like in Bridgewater. Not making the comparison but Bridgewater's game is very "interesting" in contrast to those guys
Then what was your point? QBs wearing gloves in the cold has nothing to do with hand size. They clearly prefer not to wear one unless weather dictates it, which is exactly in Bridgewater's case it suggests he may have small hands. Massive disappointment? General consensus at the time was that taking a DE over a QB was crazy. Hindsight has proven that taking the guy who averages 10+ sacks in a full season over the QB who's no longer in the league was clearly the right choice. He might not be Julius Peppers, but we passed on him with the #1 pick for the best 1st round QB available. I typically assume that people who say we have to take a QB at #1 must be too young to remember that.
Lets be clear To the trained eye 1. V.Y had high bust potential (actually surprised me by winning games in the pros) 2. Leinart was a lazy bum (work ethic issues arose during that time) 3. Lingering questions about Jay Cutler I would have taken Jay over Mario even till this day
I can see the comparisons to Rodgers and Brady coming out of college, but Manning was unique in that he's bigger & stronger than all of them. My concern is that Bridgewater won't get years on the bench like the smaller Rodgers & Brady did. Time for his frame to fill out a bit more, and get caught up to NFL speeds. He's going to get thrust into it from the start, and I'm not yet sold on the idea that he's ready to handle that kind of both physical & mental beating.
