I guess Bridgewater is my "flavor of the week." Next week, maybe not. Just can't get excited about Clowney, but can't get over the notion that Manziel is going to win, someway, some how, the boy is going to win. It would make me sick for him to go to the Browns and become an All Pro. The Combine can't get here soon enough.
According to the National Football Post, three general managers with a "serious interest" in this year's quarterback-draft class compare it to 2011's. Per reporter Jason Cole, one GM added "except there’s no Cam Newton." Aside from Newton, the 2011 class included Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker and Christian Ponder. In other words, a bunch of flops. All four players went in the first 12 picks. Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater is generally considered the top talent in this year's class, followed in varying order by Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, UCF's Blake Bortles and Fresno State's Derek Carr. With as many as seven QB-needy teams picking in the top 10 this May, reaches like 2011's are a definite possibility.
i still dont see your point. didnt he also say hes seen very little of manziel and even less of bortles. so yes youre right he hasnt watched bridgewater, youre whole schtick is about being right so congrats you win.. i still do not see your point, is the point youre making that he will never view bridgewaters since he already hasnt, are you saying that hes done with his scouting process because he played against bortles once and watched manziel play against alabama and duke?? many feel that when mr o'brien views the tape and sits down with TB that he will see all the characteristics he looks for in a qb in teddy. i get it you dont like bridgewater, why dont you just remove yourself from this discussion because you dont bring any insight, youre simply here to ruffle feathers.
You do not understand, college "magic" does not translate. I am baffled by the amount of people on here who think that just because Johnny can run around college kids he can do the same to grown men who live football 365 and who are much bigger, faster stronger. Truly shocking
If Manziel was 6'5 240 and possessed a rocket launcher I could give that idea credence. The fact of the matter is that the NFL game is a completely different world than college football. At every position in the NFL you have an All American at some point in the college ranks. EVERY POSITION. The speed and strength differentials are astronomical.
Why? He's not an Andrew Luck type of prospect, hell, he's not even an RG3 type of prospect. I can't see why anyone would be so high on him as to cause a "bidding war". Even if you were the type of GM to get into a bidding war over a QB, why not wait for next year with Jameis Winston?
The overrating of RG3 is almost as bad as the Manziel overrating. When comparing qbs and their ability to manipulate and pick apart a difference with their play, Bridgewater takes a fat dump on RG3. Bridgewater is the much more refined and better qb. Become a student of the game instead of a fan you will understand why teams may be willing to trade heavy for Bridgewater...It has been repeated before. Click on the previous page and listen to the draft and film analyst Brett Kollmann. Jameis??? Please, first of all there is no guarantee he will come out next year. Even if he did come out, you would probably have to really suck to get him. Besides he needs to become much more polished as a passer before I could view him as a legit franchise qb prospect. Very talented, extremely unpolished.
I've known Brett's opinion for a really long time now, but I simply disagree that Teddy Bridgewater is anything special. I think he's the most NFL ready QB prospect in this draft, but it's a draft without any top tier QB talent. Also, if you've spent any time on Battle Red Blog in the last few months, you know that site is absolutely crazy for Bridgewater. People there have called him the next Aaron Rodgers, they've said he's the second most intelligent QB ever behind only Manning.....he's surrounded by a cult that worships Bridgewater as a deity so it's not surprising that some of that wore off on him a bit. I do respect his opinion though, and I'm not calling for Bridgewater to be an awful QB or anything, I just think that he's not worthy of the overall #1 pick in a draft that has a talent like Jadeveon Clowney and certainly not worthy of a "bidding war".
Think about this for a second. This is a guy who has watched film of countless qb prospects and qbs in general. He has seen his fair share of great qbs. There must be some credence to what he is saying. Especially since scouts from various other outlets were saying similar things. Also "elite qb talent" is an overrated phrase. It is about having an "elite qb brain" You have to really really smart to be an elite qb, when I mean smarts, football smarts. An X's and O's genius and has enough physical tools to execute. You don't need an elite arm, elite speed, or elite anything (besides elite accuracy and an elite brain) to be an elite qb. In fact all those extra things often impede a qb being an elite qb because of their dependency on those elite tools sans accuracy and smarts
Starting to see that on here. The way people talk about him, anything LESS than Aaron Rodgers, he's a bust!
Just trade for ryan mallett and draft clowney I'm really starting to fell like obrien will not like the guy and as far as teddy b I think obrien will like him but the impact a clowney watt d-line can have outweighs the impact a teddy b with a defense that can't stop people or put pressure on the QB can have and just for the record I want manziel but think clowney is hard to pass up when you think about pairing him with watt and the rest of those boys
The lack of consensus around the QBs is a concern to me. I'd rather roll the dice on Clowney or trade back than gamble the #1 pick on a ?QB who grades out similar to the 2011 QB class. I do have concerns about clowney's transition to OLB though.
