Non-violent protests, fundraising, court cases, lobbying and legislation. Complimented by the surplus wealth, stability and optimism that makes those in power or the plurality content and more focused on growth than suppression.

Lol. Hell no! Kojirou is an idiot. I'd trust a random stranger wayyy more than I'd trust the government. Individuals have this feelings like guilt and empathy. Those feelings are lost in government where groupthink prevails and we end up with the same scenarios with individuals "just following orders" who end up committing atrocities as agents of the state.

There's a lot of good in people, Kojirou. You could sit down with the average person and you'll find that they're generally good. Its when people get together in groups that the bad comes out. Suddenly, things that are entirely unreasonable for the individual become acceptable "for the greater good." But the "greater good" is just an excuse to justify the means to an end, and the ends are never reasonably thought out -- Groupthink mostly prevails.

The other side to this johndoe804 is how to effectively govern 1-2 million people in your city, 15+ million in your state, or 350 million people in your country.

If you imagine our leaders are +\- 25 iq points from you, that's a pretty demanding task even if they wanted to be mediocre at it.

That corollary to your post is something to keep in mind because it's tremendous.

There's no contradiction in thinking that people are fundamentally good while also thinking that people are fundamentally idiots.

Exactly, trust is as much about abilities and likely outcome as it is about intentions.

If you are talking about the politicians in our government who have consistently voted to have themselves treated differently than the people they represent, then no.

    NSA no.
    IRS no.
I guess I trust our military but guess who tells them what to do. so no.

I just had NJ child support enforcement start garnishing my checks for a 22 year old that I know nothing about and never had any court interaction over. My first contact was my own company telling me the garnishments were starting... I don't trust em

sheesh, this is a depressing topic, I'm out.

WOW! That is insane. It should be criminal for a woman to keep a child from his father. It d*mn sure be criminal for them to start trying to take money 22 yrs after the fact
