Ill say this, If Clowney matched his raw talent with work ethic and motor, I would take him over Bridgewater Clowney is a once in a decade talent, but the work ethic and constant motor are a different issue
When I see Clowney, I think of him rushing the passer opposite Watt and I see the fear in opposing QB's faces. You can't double them both and you can't stop either of them consistently with just one blocker. The Texans would have a good pass rush without blitzing and a monster pass rush when sending the extra guy. I think Bridgewater will be a pretty decent QB somewhere, but I wouldn't want to pass up a potentially historic pass rush duo.
The problem is, the reports of laziness and taking plays off and the overall lack of disappearing between plays is extremely bothersome. Those types of issues tend to resurface.
We have a QB thirsty fan base. Playing the percentages that you have a better chance of finding a franchise QB in the first round when the percentages are just as good that you end up with a a bust like Carr, Jamarcus _ or mediocre to average QBs like Bradford and Stafford.
When I've watched his tape, those reports are way overblown IMO. He can get gassed when the defense is on the field for too long, but he bounces back once he gets his breath. Having to fight through double and even triple teams damn near every down is tiring. If I bought the reports of him being lazy then I'd be right there with you.
Well that's not the only serious knock on him. He hasn't really played quality opponents in his college career, he has accuracy issues that pop up out of nowhere, especially on deep routes, the size problem is a problem, but it's hardly the only one. I watched a good deal of tape on him and it was a mixed bag for me. He does some good things, but there are a lot of throws he made at the college level that he wouldn't get away with at the NFL level. He just seems like one hell of a risk for the overall first pick in the draft. It looks like the kind of move that can cost a GM or coach their job if it doesn't go well.
this is also way overblown, there is plenty of footage out there on him and hime tkaing on double and triple teams most of the time is even close to being true.. i saw him watching plays more than i saw him getting double teamed..
Okay, maybe I should clarify. I'm talking about passing downs. Why would they double team him when running away from him? That really should have gone without saying. Every single team that played Clowney ran away from him on run downs and double or triple teamed him on pass downs, the times they didn't he was pressuring the QB.
lol i understand that, i just think if you were to put some actual numbers up you would see that him getting double teamed on passing downs "all the time" is still complete nonsense.. i would even say triple teamed might be a very very rare case. also i saw plenty of times where he was brushed off by the lineman and picked up by the tailback i dont consider this a double team.. first link on a google search showed in one particular game he got double teamed 5 times out of 20 passing downs which itself indicates that him getting doubled and tripled every down is bs..
QFT On the money Also if I am correct, Taylor Lewan held Clowney in check for most of the Michigan besides that one hit
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Mb-8ePTyOnQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> If you call this down year than i will take him instantly. This guy is the only true number one pick worthy. Always go with Best player available. This guy has been productive every year since High school. Texans would be stupid to pass on this kind of talent. You know you are a beast when teams are running away from you and putting two people on you all the time. Don't make the mistake of taking a QB. It will be D. Carr all over again. Have you already forgotten the pain D. Carr caused us? You draft a QB with #1 when you absolutely know this is once in a generation kind of player. Other than that picking a Risk type QB with #1 is just a 50/50 proposition and you don't want to play those kind of odds with your #1 overall pick. Uncle Bob, you are a smart fellow. Make the right decision.
Boyd's hands are 9 3/8 which is right around aaverage for NFL QBs... Flacco's is 9 5/8 in comparison. I believe anything under 9 is considered too small.
The more I see of Clowney the more questions I have. I watched half of the above film. He virtually overran, missed the tackle, or never got to the area where the tackle was made on almost every play. What was supposed to be impressive? Does he go crazy in the second half?
