We're going to have to agree to disagree. That gun should have never been an issue. That's why i hope the old guy is prosecuted and sentenced justly, but what came first, the chicken or the egg. If phone guy kept his phone in his pocket this would have never happened.

Hypothetical scenario...Old man does not have gun, confrontation escalates...how does this play out?

Taken in context, the point I took was that there were probably others in the theater that did not draw their guns. In a ****-hit-the-fan situation, believe it or not, CHL holders first reaction should be duck, cover, and be a good witness....defense...unless protecting anothers life or in a kidnapping.

With the man going home alive to his daughter he was texting and his wife not having to watch him murdered right in front of her. Pretty easy question.

You can dance around it, but there is the possibilty that the old man may be in the hospital, and the popcorn thrower in prison for assault on the elderly. But yes, you are right...hopefully both still alive.

Or most likely, one guy would've had popcorn on him and the other ejected from the theatre.

Somebody posted earlier that an assault on the elderly with anything more than a marshmallow is considered a felony, and it didn't seem like either party was willing to back down. Doubtful your scenario would be the end of it.

The point is that old crazy man wouldn't have had the balls to start the confrontation if he didn't have his gun. This is where carrying guns goes wrong, people think they're bad a$$es...

    Stereotype much?

Are you sure about that? Because I'm pretty sure that people without guns have started confrontations, and people with guns have not.

So your idea of someone not following this "rule" is to kill the man. hope i wont see you at the movies :/ you might kill someone for constantly making coughing sounds or sniffing because you know, "silence is golden" and ppl should make absolutely no noise.

Well, we'll never know because the dude was murdered and these hypotheticals mean nothing to the wife who saw her husband shot dead in front of her and their daughter who lost her father becuase he was texting her.

Theater management should be held responsible for this also.

No they shouldn't. The only person who should be held responsible for this is the guy who pulled the trigger.

Besides the unreasonable person who shot the person texting, a reasonable action for someone texting who got verbally asked to quit texting is to say "Sorry...my bad!", get up, and walk a few feet to the lobby to finish his business on the phone. A good wife would have asked him to do the same. Nobody involved was using any kind of rational reasoning. This caused the whole situation to break down into chaos without the theater management intervening.

Why did either side have to be so pissy about the situation? It makes no sense. One person bothering another regardless of if he is texting his daughter or the president can't just be a man and own up to the fact that he is bothering at least one other person in the theater and take it outside the theater for a few minutes to complete his phone business?

Stupid people acting stupid get stupid outcomes. Unfortunately, this stupid outcome was a horrible one. In the end, it is all chalked up to stupidity.

These hypotheticals were not for the wife and daughter. They were the this bbs and to get into this discussion, logically. I never was a fan of pathos.

I know its a monster thread, so you probably did not see where Crash time and time again, said he did not think anyone deserved to get shot.

Yet you stereotyped the popcorn thrower as someone who would beat up an old man . . . . .
