All this is true, but is it also not true that texter could have just put the phone away. Any one of these actions could have possibly clamed the sutuation, but what a hassle to move seats, complain to management, get money back and leave, back down when confronted...Even if he didn't have a gun, thats a lot of things to do for a guy that could have simply put away the phone.

When you put it that way, its no wonder the old man lost his temper. I wonder how many times he has had to do this before he just snapped.

I wish we lived in a world where we could fully trust cops to shoot people who just outright refuse to stop doing stuff like this (& ONLY when they blatantly refuse, not just catching them in the act); the only problem is if it's just a cop & the perpetrator, with no other witnesses, they might lie & shoot them just because they want to. So you can't really let them do it, as much as some of you might want to. I understand the frustration on both sides though, I would like it if litterers could be shot too, but that's not really feasible either.

Shoot for refusing to stop texting or littering? Really?

No, I understand why it can't be that way, and am actually glad it's not that way. I don't want to take the chance that a cop gets mad at me for some other reason, and with no witnesses lies about me refusing to stop being a DB just to be able to shoot me.

I just WISH it were possible. If cops were perfect robots maybe, like an ed 2000 but without the bugs, yeah I'd like to see blatant litterers get shot a little.

And this is why it should be harder to get guns, and why people shouldn't carry guns to theaters. The more people have guns, the more likely it is that there will always be a likestohypeguy or Curtis Reeves around with a gun.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't shoot anyone even if they were attacking me (unless it was life threatening & I absolutely couldn't get away from them), because I don't want to take the chance of going to prison for it. And I understand why it has to be that way. All i'm saying is it'd just be nice to live in a world where litterers & DB's had to at least think about it. It'd just be so much nicer, there'd be less of them I think. But this guy knew the consequences, and has to pay the price barring another similar florida senior citizen self defense or stand your ground loophole/technicality.

Come on. You're reaching. This argument can be applied to anything that can be abused in a threatening manner. alcohol, Kitchen knives, prescription drugs...even a bad attitude. Harder to get guns, I'll accept, but how does anyone make sure only the best of the best of the best only get guns

True Oulson could've done things to defuse the situation but as I stated earlier Oulson wasn't the one with deadly force at his fingertips. As a gun owner you know that there is extra responsibility to having that power.

Why wouldn't it hold up? The theater is private property and had a policy forbidding bring arms in. I don't see how CHL rights trumps the theater's right.
I sympathize. I know that the vast majority of gun owners are responsible and that it is a very small minority that ruin it for the others. That said the ease with which guns allow people to kill other people should be reason for regulation. As I said in another thread.

Guns don't' kill people but they make it a whole lot easier to kill people.

Actually, unless there a 30.06 sign, a 51% sign, or it is a federal building or school event building, A chl owner has a right to carry his weapon concealed, at least in Texas. Not sure of Florida.

If I was talking about all the theaters in the world that would make sense. But since I was only talking about the two people involved in the incident, it is known that only one of them brought a gun to the theater.

I disagree. Without the gun, then there is no other problem at which to arrive.
