Dilfer on Manziel, starts at 7:30 http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=10322346&s=espn "I've watched a lot of Johnny, I worked with him for five days last summer. His arm is a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, he can make every throw, he gets it out very quick, he knows how to anticipate throws, he's a good passer..." "He is as fast as Michael Vick was, he's not just quick, he's super fast. He's not a little guy. He's short, but he has huge hands, size 15 feet, big knees, big hips, big shoulders, all the things you look at for sustainability."
Dilfer is stretching it a bit with the "fast as vick" comments. Johnny is fast but nowhere near the speed Vick was in Atlanta.
Seriously. I'd go so far as to say it's beyond stretching it. His entire evaluation instantly became a sales pitch with as much objective value as an evaluation from Manziel's parents. We're talking about a guy who ran sub 4.3 40's. Manziel is probably in the 4.4s, which is very fast for the position, but not in the same realm as Vick. I'd be willing to believe Maziel moves as quick laterally, but straight line? LOL
Y'all are both missing the point dilfer said his arm is 7 out of. 1-10 and that JFF had big hands and feet knew that but also said big knees big hips big shoulders might still be growing or will still grow
Heck I'd be shocked if Manziel ran anything under a 4.5. He would kill all the agility drills though He doesn't have 4.4 straight line speed
We didn't miss the point. We're saying that a statement as absurd as Manziel having Vick speed devalues his entire assessment. He either doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's giving a biased opinion about a former client. My guess is the latter.
Definitely would take a chance on him.. in the later rounds. Not so much as a first pick. He's not as ready as RGIII/Cam Newton/Andrew Luck. I'd honestly rather take a chance on Keenum than see the Texans throw away a number one pick on Manziel. Sure if we want the PR to build up hype I could see him getting drafted but I doubt the new coach would agree with it.
Lol true. He was high on ponder and gabbert coming out also. Not saying johnny will be a flop like those two but Dilfer is not the best at judging qbs.
My thought is if he doesn't make it, he is going to miss big. There's not much middle ground where he is concerned and IMO his size might be the pink elephant no one really wants to talk about. You have to watch a lot of video to see a pattern, he rarely gets sacked in the pocket, hell he rarely gets hit in the pocket after he delivers. It's because he never allows them to get close. He rarely steps and delivers. Once the pocket squeezes on him he is gone. Is it because he can't see **** once they get close?. The thing that bothers me the most is he seems to work too hard to get his results. Yes he is an amzing college talent. The way he eludes tacklers and is almost impossible to corral in the pocket but he is too speed dependent. I know it's amazing, the way he zigs and zags just escaping the grasps of giants and then throwing amzing passes downfield for completions. How can you not love that!? But it's not coachable. You can't depend on it at the next level and it's dangerous. it took one season to stop RGIII from doing it. How much longer will it take to curvel Manziel who doesn't have the size of RGIII. Plus no eveidence that he can change. He plays in a trick offense. He sets up deep in the shotgun, so he has lots of room to see what's coming. Sumlin is smart. He knew what to do to get the most out of Manziel's skillset and that's what he did. He set far nough back in the shotgun he had room to improv and make things happen but I just don't see that flying in the NFL. Not as much as he might need to. He doesn't have that smooth delivery and pocket presence. The thing is Manziel had such a great OLine and he definitely benefited from that but he doesn't benefit as much as he should have. You can see with enough space and time he can throw well in the pocket. But when it closes he rarely steps into it and trust his protection. He also benefits from having a 6'5" sure handed receiver in Evans.
Don't worry about me Sydeffect _ because I didn't read all of his post (I rarely ever do). I read the first couple of lines so I could tell where he was going... Either Pro Teddy, and or why he doesn't want Johnny. And the Pro Teddy and Pro Johnny Fan Club Boys, any thread that has anything to do with not drafting the player they want _ they are against. I don't want the Texans to draft either one of those young men. Josh McCown said he wasn't retiring and he wants to play so I want him. When he was on the field this year _ HE WAS ARGUABLY THE BEST QB IN THE LEAGUE bar none. But you guys are talking about a couple of under sized rookies with Case Keenum caliber arms and not talking about Josh who is a guy who's proven and ready to play NOW. Where's the logic in that...????
After hearing that Brett Kollman interview, the only qb I see us taking is Bridgewater With Luck in the division we need a qb who can match him. Bridgewater is that guy Its gonna be Manning vs. Brady (we have Brady) all over again
lol at Old Man Rock and endofworld cherry picking puff pieces on Bridgewater, then forming conclusions it's January, boys
