No one said that Rondo should do a job he has not done before so therefore it is not like "since I worked for Wal-Mart that I should be the new CEO of Verizon because I was a part of the largest corporation in the world" as you put however, it would be like saying since you were a successful CEO before we are going to hire you here to be a successful CEO because we have proof that you know how to do the job.

IF the trade does happen will this be the first time the Rockets get a pass first PG since John Lucas? I can't recall the Rockets having that type of PG since the 80's.

Rondo would instantly become the best playmaker on the team. While he isn't a good three point shooter, he will make others on the team better. Harden, Parsons, Casspi, Garcia etc. will all have more open looks because of Rondo.

    Fantastic post.

Rondo would be great, as would Lowry.

I hope we can find an upgrade sooner rather than later.

I would happily give up a 1st rounder to be able to dump both Lin and Asik for Rondo. What a steal of a deal that would be. Gives you a great PG and gets rid of Lin's albatross contract all at once. Sign me up.

That shouldn't be too surprising, Grantland is Bill Simmons' site and he's a Celtics homer, of course there is going to be puff pieces done on Celtics players there. There simply is no defending a player who shoots 60% from the FT line and 20% from 3 point land even if you can find isolated numbers where they look halfway decent.

He's a HUGE upgrade over Jeremy, even at 40%, but that contract is epic.

I need to see if KG/Pierce/Jesus made rondo look better than he really is.

It's only 3 million more than Lin's contact. Not too bad, but his injuries are a bit of a worry. He would still have way more asset value than Lin, no matter what happens.

I spoke of this prior...he would make everyone better, give dwight more touches , defend and stop all the turnovers. Pass first indeed..rondo attitude would have to be subdued.

Just throwing this out there, but you do realize that he averages more turnovers per game than any PG on the Rockets roster right? In fact Rondo's career turnover rate is about 20%, higher than anyone on the Rockets this year except Omer Asik.

Based on the cap average, it's a little over 3 million. Lin's is 8.3, while Rondo is making 11.95 this year and 12.9 the next. His contract falls off the same year. But if the offer of Asik/Lin for Rondo on the table, it's definitely something to consider, especially if a backup center can be had.

I think his contract would be more of an issue when he becomes a free agent, with the luxury tax in mind and Parsons looking to get a bigger deal.

While Rondo is a great player not sure he would be a great fit for our team. His strongest attributes are penetrating and defense. Clear weakness are 3 point shooting and ft% (He is terrible at mid 20% and 60%). The rockets biggest need is to keep the floor spaced and more team effort on rotations. Since defenders won't have to honor rondo's 3pt shot it will really make it easy to pack the paint.

Given the fact our offensive philosophy is to every get shots close at the rim or a 3 pointer and it is clear the gameplan centers around Dwight in the post and Harden getting touches, it seems rondo's biggest strengths on the offensive end will be minimized and weaknesses such as 3pt shooting will be highlighted.

That leaves defense, is Rondo's defense that much better that Beverly? Seems unlikely he would be worth the gamble especially given he only has one year left on his contract.

I honestly think our team just needs to be more disciplined on offense and defense (not sure if they just need time on this or more direct coaching)...and possibly add a kyle-korver type player who is a true 3 point shooter.

It would be comical to watch the mercurial and acerbic Rondo clash with Harden, Howard and McHale. The Celtics Big 3 all had issues with him. Allen left in part because of him. KG, Pierce and Allen are each better than Harden and Howard as two way players, which means it will be easier for Rondo to manipulate them. Rondo also has weaknesses as a player (shooting, primarily, but also decision making). I almost want that trade to happen just to watch the spectacle. It will be worse than when Barkley, Pippen and Olajuwon teamed up.

    From basketball.reference.com:

Career DRtg (points allowed per 100 possessions)

    Rajon Rondo: 102
    Patrick Beverley: 106
    Jeremy Lin: 106
    Aaron Brooks: 111

    Rockets Only DRtg:
    Patrick Beverley: 106
    Jeremy Lin: 107
    Aaron Brooks: 110

Yes, Rondo is a better defensive player than Beverley, Lin, or Brooks. I'm not a statitician like some others here, but, I assume this means that Rondo allows four fewer points than Beverley per 100 possessions? As for the Rockets, the best DRtg belongs to Bev, with Lin in second and Brooks a distant third.

    Forgot to add:

    The 2012 DRtg comparison:
    Rondo: 99
    Beverley: 107

So the difference could be significant, with Rondo allowing as much as 8 pts fewer per 100 possessions.

I would think that with the way KG and Pierce are looking this year in Brooklyn, all this nonsense about Bostons big 3 making him look good would go away, as people would understand it has been the other way around for a number of years now, but I guess reality is just a recommendation for some people.

And aside from the rift with Ray Allen, who got butthurt about the fact that the starting lineup was miles better with Avery Bradley instead of him and that Rondo didn't want to wait 20 seconds on every possession until Ray got open, NONE of the rumors about Rondo alienating KG, Pierce, or Doc Rivers have EVER been substantiated. On the contrary, all three rave about Rondo every chance they get.

The problem is Lin Asik and 2104 first round pick can not satisfy Ainge.
So I guess Morey has to offer more to make this deal REAL work in process.
