IMO, if you are disturbing a fellow patron by doing something that most consider disturbing and you refuse to stop your a jerk. But thats just my opinion. I'm through arguing over philosophical stuff in this thread. In the end we all think the old man was wrong and should go to jail.

Hey man like dandorotik did with me I'm calling a truce with you. We both think the old guy is a psychopath that needs to go to jail. That's good enough for me.

Coming back late to this thread. Yes of course one of the things I teach is to not escalate the situation.

Now I know you are arguing that Oulson could've prevented the escalation which is true but as Reeves was the one who had deadly force at his fingertips and was the one who used that deadly force much of the onus falls on Reeves as to how he could've prevented the escalation.
    1. He could've not brought a gun to the theater.
    2. He could've moved seats.
    3. He could've continued to complain to the management when they didn't take action to address Oulson's texting.
    4. If he was so annoyed by Oulson's texting and the theater wasn't addressing it he could've asked for his money back and left.
    5. He could've backed off from Oulson when Oulson angrily confronted him.

I don't see how Stand Your Ground wouldn't apply to Reeves' defense. There was more than enough opportunity for Reeves to retreat if he felt threatened.

Barring other facts coming out if from what we know of the situation Reeves does mount a successful defense is another reason why I find Stand Your Ground laws troubling.

It didn't apply to Zimmerman and it doesn't apply here. I guess you don't understand the law?

Reeves will go to jail for shooting the hand of the wife, not for the killing of that asswhole.

Crap...I'm on the plane right now on my way into Orlando for my connecting flight home. I need to remember not to text anyone nor purchase Skittles while I'm here. I fear for my life nonetheless.

I'm telling you how I felt at the time, If I would have jumped out of my car and beat them up that would be something different. What went through my mind was that this is a rude little punk kid that should learn manners and not stand in front of a car on purpose than make faces and be rude as the car is driving by. I don't think that makes me a monster because something like that upsets me, it makes me a monster if I took action on it. Thinking and doing are two different things. I'm not siding the 73 year old man, but what I'm saying is I can understand how he felt, he just didn't do the right thing. It takes will power to not let your anger get the better of you. Your telling me a child has never upset you? So if that happened to you, your on your way home from work and kids purposely stand in the middle of the street just to piss you off you wouldn't get irritated? Give me a break dude, everyone gets angry, nothing wrong with that at all.

No...he killed a WHITE Man. He will be convicted of murder. If the guy was black or hispanic , then there is a good chance he would get off.

Agreed, and I believe that the other man may have been a jerk. I'd just rather he not be considered a jerk for stuff that he either didn't do, or was just as guilty as the shooter of doing.

I think both guys were probably jerks, but only one felt the need to bring a gun to the theater and ended up killing somebody.

Team CHL? That's a new one.

IIRC, I stated that this whole mess was a series of bad choices. There are a lot of "buts" in this situation. Any of which could have diffused the situation.

I don't think leaving the gun at home is going to hold up. There are specific places CHL holders can not take their weapon. They have every right to take their weapon anywhere else.

That being said, as a CHL holder of 7 years, shooter was wrong. He screws it up for other CHL holders. Everyone now wants to paint all CHL holders with the same broad brush, as usual, but for CHL holders, life goes on as usual. Nobody should know a chl holder is carrying anyway. That gun should have never been drawn.

Bringing the gun was not the problem. Drawing it and shooting was the problem.
