If the Rockets signed Iggy/Milsap in the off season, instead of just Dwight Howard (this would mean Asik remained the starting center) , would the Rockets be a better team / more legitimate contenders?

And then GSW gets dwight? Hmmm I don't even want to think about that.

    Dwight by far.

quality > quantity in a league driven by star power

This thread made me smile. So you sign Iggy and Millsap. Who do you bench? Parsons or Iggy?

You always take the best big man in the game, always. To the people who voted Millsap/Iggy, oh lord. I'm out with this ridiculous thread.

You know the plan always was to add a third star? We were never meant to contend this season.

True but the plan was also to show that we can measure up against any team in the league, but so far we have been very inconsistent in doing so.

Hang on. We can't realistically add a third star until the 2015 offseason. So does that mean the Rockets organization is writing off this season and next? If so, they may wanna pass that along to season ticket holders.

We would've been a good team with a lower ceiling (with Andre/Milsap) than what we can potentially be with Howard and the rest of our team. Howard should be one of the top centers for the entire duration of his contract. By next season we should be a more consistent team with better results and hopefully by then the Spurs will have finally been replaced by the Rockets in the SW division.

You are correct, he doesn't believe that. That's why he rolled his eyes.

No. Dwight would be an MVP candidate with the Clippers playing with CP3 under Doc Rivers. Neither would be taking his **** about not wanting to run the PnR.

Even though Dwight is a top 5 player in this league, I honestly was asking myself this very same question today. I just feel that Lin and Harden thrive in pick and roll situations but Dwight doesn't seem anywhere near as committed to the pick and roll as Asik was. To put it simply, the style of play Dwight wants is not the best style of play for everyone on the team, and that's part of the reason why haven't improved as much as one would expect with the addition of a top 5 player.

Maybe it's not Dwight's fault, maybe it's everyone else who can't do the things Dwight wants them to do, but rather than pointing fingers lets me point out a fact with the use of this snazzy graph courtesy of Cameron Purn.

Rockets rank 1st in pick and roll efficiency but use it on less than 13% of possessions

In contrast, the Rockets are one of the lead leaders in isolations despite being terribly inefficient at it. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Houston has a problem there.

Instead of changing everyone's style of play to suit Dwight, I think we should be searching for a playing style that best suits the team, to me that means more PnRs and it all starts with the big man. Not only Dwight, but all our big men need to be willing to set setting screen after screen and rolling hard to the rim. It's a lot of work, our big men will get tired faster, but it's a sacrifice worth making for the team.

Could you imagine him with that Warriors 3 point shooting!?

    Or under Rick Carlisle?

Who said the Rockets would be the only ones better off? :)

I think we would have been better. Considering we would have really good bench. And great defense all game long.
