Alex Smith had the 6th most rushing yards for QBs in the regular season. I don't think anyone would say he has elite athleticism. It's easy to get caught up in speed and how they rushed in college but that doesn't always translate well to the NFL. I also imagine that Alex Smith took a lot less hits on those rushing yards then other rushers such as Pryor, Russel, Kaep, etc. It's more about when you run than how fast you run.

Saw Johnny at a restuarant in College Station (Chimy's) last Thursday I believe. He was pretty low key with a small group of friends. No one was asking for pictures or autographs. He was wearing a snap back and a Favre Falcons jersey. Knew it was him by his big nose and cheesy smile. Then knew it had to be him when he was going behind the bar and pouring his Four Loko into a frozen mug lol. Looked like he was having a good time. These two girls asked for a picture but he told them to wait for him to finish his beer. Woulda helped if they were >6/10 I suppose.

Anyway, seems like a decent dude.

Alex Smith was considered a duel threat coming out of college (and at the time _ I thought San Francisco was stupid for drafting him).

I responded to someone saying Bridgewater has a fast 40 time. But that doesn't make him a duel threat because he wasn't one in college. Not saying he can't be though.

    Dual threat

I challenge you to a duel.
The quarterback is a dual threat.

    That is all...carry on.

After a few Four Loko's JFF would likely be a duel threat.

Factoid regarding Alex Smith -- a knock on him during the combine was his hand measurement -- he has really small hands for a QB. As I recall they measured out around 8 3/4 inches which is really small. The concern obviously was his ability to grip the ball -- it doesn't seem to matter so he must have an iron grip.

For comparison Andrew Luck's hands measure 10" which is about average for an NFL QB.

    /End factoid.

I think I read that Manziel measures at 9.5, but I could be wrong -- I don't know about the other two.

Side note: if you want to measure your hand combine style get a ruler and measure the distance from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your pinky. B-Ball players have really big hands -- Jimmy Graham's are a little under 11' -- Jordan's hand's are probable 15+. Kobe has some interesting comments on Jordan and what he (Kobe) did to strengthen his forearms so he could grip the ball better. Kobe said he hands really weren't that large for a guy his size.

That's just a guess, but I compared my hands to his in that giant book he put out in the 90's and they were literally twice as big as mine (my hands measure right at 10" for comparison).

I've heard that 9 1/2" is the average NFL QB hand size. Teams prefer their QB to at least have that much. I'm 6'1". I never considered myself to have small hands and mine measure 9".

Drew Brees' hands are 10 1/4". Same for Russell Wilson. Those are fairly big by league standards, larger than most taller QBs. Michael Vick probably has the smallest among notable QBs at 8 1/2". David Carr's were 9 3/4".

J.R. You are the Man.. thanks... From viewing his first mock draft and his last Mock Drafts- he actually misses quite a bit.. which is understandable, but hes not off by much... So i like are chances of getting Manziel or Teddy )

I know it sounds crazy, but what about trading back a few spots and drafting Sammy Watkins? The Clemson connection and he's a legit #1 WR.

I know we have AJ and Hopkins, but Watkins is a can't miss prospect, and O'Brien knows how to use 3WR sets. AJ won't be AJ in two years. Why not grab the sure thing and let our new offensive-minded coach go to work. Not as crazy as it sounds.

The problem is that it takes 2 to tango. We have no indication early on that a team will be willing to pay what it takes to move up to number 1.

Louis Nix and Sammy Watkins are the sure fire picks in this draft and I would love to have either one...

Sammy seems like one of those type of receivers that can help make a QB great. But i believe he had a drug arrest before and you know how McNair is.

If the rough draft of a guessing game can generate this much conversation, mock drafts must be a gold mine.

Jason La Canfora: I think Manziel is going first overall. I'd be surprised if he doesn't. There's too many teams that really like him, too many teams willing to trade up to get him. I don't know that he's a fit for Houston. Their owner is enamored with him. I'm not sure that's the way BO'B wants to start his coaching career, especially when there's some QB prospects who he may be able to get his hands on a little bit down the line. Talk about Cleveland and Oakland, there are teams that really like Manziel. .....

    McClain responding to JLC report:

How would he have a clue what Bob McNair is thinking? Nothing in there that's new. Right now, the Texans don't have a clue. There are four months left in the scouting process. BO'B will not be forced to take a QB he doesn't want.

    Why not Manziel?

Bortles was coached by GO'L, one of his mentors. I have a long Q&A with BO'B. I ask him about each QB. He played against Bortles. Bortles beat him. Bortles is big. He praised Bortles & Manziel. He said, honestly, he did not see Bridgewater. They may take Manziel. I don't see Bob McNair taking a QB that TMZ follows (but it was brought up that his RB just took the TMZ headlines). Most important thing for Manziel, when he looks GMs/Coaches in the eye, he has to convince them he'll eat, sleep, breathe football. BO'B talked about that to Peter King. Manziel better be a nun between now and the draft.

I want him here. Great to cover. His stock will keep going up. I'd love to have him but right now, if I was betting right now, no.
